So i'm being paid to sing in an Opera!

Because of my work with the Leeds Opera Society and the parts i've played, i've been asked to play a lead role in a new opera called Red Angel, which is based on the novel of the same name.

Not exactly my big break, as they're not paying much, but it's a great opportunity to meet a great director and composer and it's being run as a sort of workshop, so there will be no performance but it's going to be recorded. Opera North are involved, so links with them will be even stronger (though to be honest as president of Opera Society I don't think links could be any stronger right now >.<).

I'm off on Wednesday morning.

=D

How very fitting, given the colour of the heart in your avatar and your username here.
Hope something even bigger and better comes out of this for you.

Good Luck, enjoy every second and don't be too nervous. My first "Opera Job" was in Dido and Aeneas, I was so nervous I was sick right before my first performance :?

As it stands....

I'd rather not break a leg!

>.<

But thanks everyone.

Nerves shouldn't be a problem, i've done much larger roles (even did 3 operas in 2 weeks!) but i've never got paid =D

Baritone (Papageno/Rossini's Figaro) but i've been known to solo as bass (Raphael/Mozart's Figaro).

A better responce would have been...

Angelic never actually wrote:
A very good one thank you! ;)

Remember kids, if it sounds funny in your head the chances are that by the time it gets out of your mouth it won't be funny any more...

;)  :etc:

Great. I always prefer the deeper registers.

I don't go to a lot of opera but CK loves it so I go with her. Normally I like the singing but not the plot. Often there are too few dancing girls in the productions too.

Your last sentence, (which made me chuckle) made up for the fact that you completely ignored my, (quite frankly brilliantly funny) remark. ;)

I appreciated it, and wish that I had thought of it first

I love the storylines - they're usually only good when you can understand them and with some operas that's pretty hard to do unless you have an intimate knowledge of the libretto! Sopranos annoy me though. I can handle Mezzo, and Coloratura Sops but I just can't stand the forced-vibrato warblers!

Dancing girls = musicals. I wish to god there were more dancing girls in Operas! Operas tend to be more serious though, which is annoying. There are great comic operas, but more of them are just plain dirty than funny. For instance I was in the British Premiere of Louis Spohr's Pietro Von Abano which is about Necrophilia ^_^
