Post subject:  Bluetooth - do you use it?

As mentioned in the CES thread, I'm after the Acer A200 tablet when it's finally released ( ) and I was going through the spec list when I noticed it did Bluetooth. It got me thinking that I've never used it with my phone, and anyone I've seen trying to forward something with it usually would have been quicker just sending an SMS...

Anyway, if you use it, what for? :)

Used to use it on my old Sony Ericsson phone for the hands free ear thingy in the car, and as a remote for my Mac.
To be honest, I got fed up with the ear bud as it wasn't that comfortable, so I just used a single ear bud and mic instead.
These days, my phone is all wifi so that acts as a remote for my Mac when I'm watching anything in VLC or listening to music, and again, if I'm driving it's normally a short trip and I'll call whoever when I've stopped, or I'll just use the ear buds in one ear.

My built-in satnav has a bluetooth module so I can make and take calls from the satnav screen. Invaluable IMO - can call whilst driving. Uses an active microphone so cancels out road and car noise. Much better than those earpieces which drove me nuts as they weren't very comfortable for long periods of time and the other person couldn't hear me very well due to road/background noise.

I use it on my laptop to connect to my magic trackpad.

On my phone I used it a couple times to see what it could do but not since then.

Oh, actually, that's a point - I use it all the time. Mouse & Keyboard are BT devices, I'd completely forgotten.

On my phone every day for hands-free in the car

On my Laptop, I used to tether and sync to my Nokia. These days with the 'droid I use WiFi for this.

On my tablet, I've yet to use it. I would maybe have used it to tether on the go, but WiFi is easier and quicker with the 'droid.

The other big use is wireless peripherals. Some people like to use BT keyboards with their iPads for example, also wireless head sets for Skype on a phone, laptop or tablet. Personally, my BT headset hasn't been charged for so long it probably needs a new battery. I really should sort it out because I would probably actually use it if it was set up.

I use it to link my phone to my TomTom for handsfree on the occasional long journey. That's it.

Can't say that I ever have. Certainly not with a phone, but with all manners of pointing devices being mentioned then there is a possibility. :?

Just remembered I had to use BT with a friend recently, because she couldn't work out how to BT some photo to her sister's iPhone. Of course iPhones don't have BT that works properly, so she was rather struggling and thinking she was being stupid! She sent them to me, and I emailed it on. No SD slot on the iPhone either so the only other option was Multimedia SMS which is really bloody expensive on PAYG. Obviously not a problem if you're rich enough to not care about paying £30 or whatever every month for a contract...

Not the first time the iPhone user has looked like a lemon because of crippled connectivity. Also had problems using BT to send contact cards to iPhones, while everyone around the table with a real phone obviously got it immediately. I think we transferred it with a Bic biro in the end. Actually, I don't think I ever heard from them again so maybe we just gave up.
