Ben Affleck keen on Line Of Sight?

In talks to direct and star in commando thriller

Ben Affleck is just beginning work on one military drama in the shape of hostage flick Argo, but it looks like he might have another one on his plate sooner rather than later.

THR reports that Affleck is in talks with Warner Bros to direct and star in their new thriller Line Of Sight. The film follows the adventures of an elite commando squad transporting a valuable cargo whilst dealing with a global threat.

All of which sounds relatively ho-hum until put into the context of the film’s big hook: the majority of of it will be filmed from the perspective of one of the commandos, much like a first-person shooter. Indeed, Halo: Reach writer Peter O’Brien was recently brought in to customise the script to hang around the gimmick.

Joel Silver is producing the film alongside Unknown’s Andrew Rona, and the pair will be hoping that the unusual presentation will mark Line Of Sight out from the slew of generic thrillers churned out by Hollywood every year.

We’ve seen first-person action sequences in the past, most notably in the videogame-referencing Doom, but never an entire film presented in that fashion. Whether it works or not remains to be seen, but it’s certainly intriguing.

Meanwhile, Argo begins shooting next month in Los Angeles. Affleck will be joined on screen by John Goodman, Alan Arkin and Bryan Cranston and the film is slated for a 2012 release date.

Thoughts? I'd give it a go out of curiosity. Can't help thinking someone's probably tried it before though :?

Lady in the lake, 1947.

Adaptation of a Raymond Chandler detective story. IMDb info here. Haven't seen it myself but the idea sounds good.

Does Cloverfield count?

There's Diary of The Dead too, although that was numerous characters with cameras. And Quarantine, I seem to recall? And yes, Cloverfield.

[Rec] in its original version. Forgot about that one. I suppose you could include Blair Witch Project too. One of the earliest films to do this was the notorious Cannibal Holocaust (1979), though that was only half the movie.

Cloverfield and Blair Witch don't really count though.

They were both done as footage taken from a camcorder carried by the stars of the film.

If this is proper first person then this is different from that.

This will be "what is seen through the eyes" of the person in the film.
