That's got my vote. :D

Mine too.

Ditto, and whatnot.

*Aye, aye. "You may embed only 3 quotes within each other". That's not going to go down well with the 24hr thread crew.*

We'll probably implement a slight change to that when the next 24hour thread rolls around. ;)

If I had my way I would do away with post counts, and levels completely.

What does it matter how many times someone has messaged? It should be the quality of posts which matter, which is why I much prefer rep systems which seem to work brilliantly on other boards.

It's good for n00b's too, they can quickly tell who the twats are!

I think post counts are irrelevant too, but wouldn't want to do away with them.

I agree with the voting system, but would also keep the ranks, even if it's just custom ones for the regulars, I'd happily go through and assign them. ;)

I'm not a big forum browser, so I haven't seen such a system. How is it implemented?

From low to high levels

knows as much as PC World staff
is an amoeba
has a vague idea what electrons are
is a Commodore 64 user
is a beige PC owner
has a cool computer
is the worlds coolest overlocker
is thy computer god!

I can think of one particular forum demographic that will object to that system. :P

That's why I said computer rather than PC for the higher levels, people can take that as they want.

The Mac users I'm aware of don't hold with this "overclocking" malarkey.

Any member can (if they wish) rep a post either up, or down. Each user has a rep score, and every time one of their posts is repped, they're score is changed. Clicky for example thread

You can see in the example above how some users have just one green square (not much rep, but all positive) and others have lots of green squares - so they have been repped lots. If a user gets negative rep, then they'll get red squares. When you get repped, you know who it was, which is nice. If you help someone in the help forum for example, you'll see that they said thanks.

On that particular forum you can also 'give gifts' which are the little icons which appear with the post count and rep etc, although I think that's a bit cheesey.

That's pretty cool. I agree about the gifts though.

I can see certain forumites abusing the system, but I like it.

You know who has repped you though, so you can get it changed by a mod if it's unjust. And I think an unfair negative rep is grounds for a negative rep in the other direction. :)

They are pretty irrelevant, but it gives newcomers an idea of who has been around a long time (spamming or not) and who's a relative newcomer.

When you see established boards that has members with large post counts, it gives you an idea who is most helpful when you ask a question.
