There - I said it. I know I'll be unpopular here for the mention of the word. However, I have a genuine question to ask. What will everybody be doing? I have this theory that literally every person that I can think of has (at least) one of the following: 1) Ownership/temporary use of a small child 2) A decent enough relationship with their parents to want to return home 3) A sense of obligation about who to be around I have none of the above and presently will be sitting in this same exact lounge, with the same exact state of things (no tree etc.) doing the same exact stuff. Although, I'll watch Doctor Who of course. Anyway, in thinking about this, I had this theory that must surely be a time between being a child and having your own, where Christmas with friends in a similar situation would have it's appeal. No family awkwardness, drink/eat what you want, have a laugh and actually enjoy the day instead of being either fed up or bored, or both. Has anyone ever done this? Will you be doing it this year? Am I talking nonsense and should everybody see their parents/family at Christmas? Thoughts..... |

I will be back staying at the parents, until either the desire to throttle one or both of them gets too strong (normally after about 3 days), or the booze runs out - whichever occurs first. Then I'll return here for a rest. ![]() |

I will be toodling off up to Scotland for a visit to the parents over the festive season. There will no doubt be various trips to see the rest of the family while up there and some excellent drinking with my mates who still live in the area. I'm looking forward to it. |

The wife and I will be in the Ore Mountains in Saxony for Christmas visiting her family. ![]()
No. You should see who you want to celebrate with - even if that's nobody. One thing I have done is have a barbecue on the 25th. Invite mates round who, shall we say, have a spare afternoon in their diary. Works great if you get the weather. ![]() |

Normally we'd have the whole day at home, but as we don't know if I'll be working or not yet, we're opening presents at our house then going to my parents for lunch. That way it's still okay if I'm not there. |

1) No 2) Will pop to see mum and brother before Christmas, dad's dead and his ex wife has the house I grew up in 3) I don't really understand that so I guess that's a no. Just at home with the gf, no trips to Europe this Christmas. Maybe chuck in a weekend somewhere, spur o' the moment type thing. ![]() |

Will be spending Christmas at Centre Parcs (though don't recall which one) with Faye's Mam and her brother, after last Christmas it was felt that we should all get out of the house and just have a bit of a holiday. Then it'll be odd to my folks to have a second Christmas/new year. Next year I want to either spend the day with my parents (this'll be the third Christmas I've spent with Faye's family) or just Faye and I to ourselves. |

Had the decorations up since at least 2 weeks ago at work in the shop, the trees have just gone up around site. Along with the World's Largest Origami Penguin (awaiting confirmation).
1. No, although my sister has two boys of 4 and 5. 2. I live with mine. 3. Not really, although it'd be churlish not to stick about here. As for Christmas with friends, that's what most of my mates will be doing. One's off to New Zealand for two weeks with his girlfriend, returning via LA. Other friends will no doubt be making a big meal for all our other mates, and possibly be calling in on the family they have that aren't in Scotland and probably a couple of hours drive. Most folk at work will either be required to be in work on or around Christmas Day, so not many people will actually be going that far to visit family, unless they're using their holiday now. Which given that I'm owed 4 weeks, oh yes, I might not be working Christmas - New Year this year after all... |

New GF is visiting her parents overseas for 3 weeks over Xmas. My parents are also overseas, but I have to work. Most of my mates will be busy with their families, so I'll basically be single, alone and spending too much time on the Interwebs. Much like a random November Wednesday night, but longer. On top of all that, it might snow so I'll probably crash the car or freeze to death in a blizzard or something. I really f*cking hate Xmas. Always reminds me of the girl from Gremlins and what happened to her daddy... |
