Post subject:  Guardian 7 Day Film Series

As per the subject, the Guardian is currently running a 7 day film series, where it picks out the greatest films of all times, as chosen by it's film critics.
I think this page is where all the lists are getting posted to.
Some interesting choices there.
Anyone care to discuss?

Finally found the Top 25 Lists. They're fairly predictable but I'd agree with most of the choices. In Comedy, I'd get rid of Charlie Chaplin's The Great Dictator and put in Mean Girls, The Closet or Withnail and I. In the crime section I was surprised and pleased to see John Woo's Hard Boiled (more Action than Crime) though I haven't seen quite a few of the other choices. Great to see Wall-E in the Romance section, too!

I see that people are commenting on the omission of Blazing Saddles and Laurel And Hardy and also moaning that Borat was included. Well, I laughed more at Borat and Bruno than the rest of the Top 25 added together. Maybe I'm too lowbrow :)

Yeah, it's a little buried, isn't it?
This page may be of help. It'll get updated when the next list is out.

I see there are going to be separate lists for Science Fiction and Horror. I wonder which list Alien will appear in?

If, indeed, Alien appears at all.

Hmmm. I'm tempted to suggest that forumites submit their own Top 25, but I have work to do and I can tell I'd get nothing done this afternoon

I couldn't possibly do it genre by genre.

I'm not sure I could do it at all. I'm terrible at actually narrowing things down. I will say though that I introduced yet another happy customer to Star Trek on BD last night and that's rapidly climbing my sci-fi list, even on my 5th viewing.

Planet Of The Apes remake at No.16? Really?

Dull old 2001 gets the No. 1 spot. Well I never.

OMJF how can the rate the King Kong 2005 remake over the original one?!?
That's just [LIFTED] up.

Haven't seen the remake, so I couldn't pass comment.
The original Solaris is a brilliant film, in my opinion.

And no sign of Mars Attacks!

No District 9. No Forbidden Planet. No RoboCop. No Galaxy Quest.

I have ten films to watch before I've seen the entire IMDB Top 250, that includes every Charlie Chaplin film, not looking forward to watching those, they're on my hard disk though.

What were the results of our film poll? (Old Dennis Forums?)

For the best seven, I'd include:
Back to the future, Das Boot, LOTR: The Two Towers, Castle in the sky, Bedknobs and Broomsticks
I'll have to think about the other two.
