The comments say it all.

Desperation. Betrayal of age old fans' loyalty and intelligence. Insult to those it was pandering to... the whole works.

All of that ON TOP of horrendous dialogue, endless crossovers, and introducing a version of a core character every five minutes before including them in the latest 6 month reboot.

Marvel should consider themselves lucky they have a single reader left.

i liked Ms Marvel when it was a bit more about being a muslim teenager in the earlier issues but now Marvel are putting in more Marvel Universe stuff it's becoming run-of-the-mill. I look through a few Marvel comics but maybe one or two are any good and the rest are absolute crap. Despite their huge success with the movies, the comics are almost all very poorly written even if they are aimed at 10 year olds.

Skimming through some in Tesco, the only ones that weren't a total car crash starred Deadpool or Wolverine. The writing was uniformly awful otherwise. I don't know what arc it was, but Spidey was shocking!

What do you think the problem is? Perhaps the major Marvel characters are just played out now and there's nothing left to do with them.

I'd hazard a guess that you can't write anything too specific since your character will inevitably appear in the latest BS crossover and upcoming reboot. So you get no chances taken and laziness sets in. There are people who have dreamed about working on certain titles, get to, then find it's a gilded cage I reckon.

I noticed it with DC too when they went down the Morrison hole (up Morrison's hole?). There was little point in worrying about the writing when you knew it was too late to change direction and the whole thing was gonna be a disaster followed by a reboot.

Plus certain characters have tropes that mean you just can't change up their dialogue without it being noticeable, good or bad. Combine that character with someone they normally don't/have unnecessarily been forced to interact with, and you get bland exposition at best.

Another issue reminds me of that thing in Hollywood where directors who had a big hit early on are allowed to continue on the off-chance they pull it off again, despite all evidence to the contrary. In Marvel terms, those sorta guys are dealing with an interconnected universe! And nobody will ever admit they need to change course when someone might jump overboard.

C2E2 2017: DC Comics Welcomes The Next Generation With ‘Dark Matter’
http://sciencefiction.com/2017/04/20/c2 ... rk-matter/

They all sound great, but what's the point when it's already destined to be a massive crossover AGAIN. It's a crossover within the Batman mythos BEFORE they get to the usual extended w@nkery. Absolutely nobody needs or wants it. All they want is straightforward stories and mini arcs. That's all.

Let's be honest, the comics are only around to justify the films and pump out merchandise now. It's not like they're selling enough issues to justify production or even the admin.

I agree for the moment.
The films are going through a boom, but this won't last, the comics will be there once this period of superhero film luvvieness has passed.

I'm not so sure any more. At the beginning I fully expected the Marvel universe to have imploded by now, but at this point the only thing in question is can they maintain it post-Feige. Because they've already made a success of the randomness that is Guardians, Iron Man who used to be a guide book footnote, resurrected movie Spidey... And ffs, Thor! Those are pretty crap but they had the wit to, well, add a bit of wit.

Even DC are still knocking out movie drivel because of the Chinese market and the merch. Hell, Michael Bay has gotten away with repeatedly releasing the same expensive toy ad for a decade. And the exact same toys and all.

There are people who only go to blockbuster movies now, that's the truth of it. But it's multiple factors tbf. Simply posting a trailer is an act of cross promotion now without the studios lifting another finger. The whole thing's ridiculously meta.

I liked the Sadako (The Ring) one too, but what a pain carrying that TV around all the time. I was pleased that there were no gold bikini Leias around. This can only be a good thing. Now can we have a campaign to reduce the number of Harley Quinn cosplayers?

You had me hopeful that it was the Neil Gaiman created Sandman. It wasn't.
I am disappoint.
