One upon a time, Hollywood had an imagination. It brought us Predator, Alien, Poltergeist, Highlander and many more. All great ideas, plucked from the imaginations of genii.

These days, it it’s not from Marvel, it’s a remake/reboot/rehash. There is a serious lack of new ideas kicking about.

Not all remakes are bad - Star Trek was an example of how things can be done well, but for every Star Trek, there are 10 Starsky and Hutches.

I look at the list, and shake my head. I am deeply concerned that fresh, genre defining scripts are being passed over in favour comic or remake based navel gazing.

^ I'm obviously biased, but I don't mind when they have a go at the comics-based movies - primarily because they at least stand a chance with the usually half-decent source material :)

Also, it leads to things like Road To Perdition, Ghost World, The Mask etc getting made (all comics).

If they're talking about getting a good director in who understands what's needed for a reboot I have no problem (or a film where the original was crap to begin with), but I could definitely do with seeing more original material. I'd also argue against prequels - maybe it's just me, but I can't think of one that anybody really thought was worthwhile :?

Oh, and some films should maybe just be left alone - Alien, Robocop, Poltergeist, Highlander... I'll reserve judgement until the reviews at least ;)

Just thought of something, it can only be a matter of time before we see Scarface make some sort of comeback...
