Got stung for an extra £100+ tax in my salary this month, because my tax code was changed to 500T for some reason.

I phoned HMRC to find out why and was told that it will be fixed by next pay day and they're sending me a check for £1100 because I paid too much tax last year. :D

True but that's still 19.5% less than last year. Finally seems that day rates have stopped taking a nose dive.

Two wins last week. Eye test and new readi glasses needed. The person doing the dispensing and I were talking about interests (they always seem to ask about such tunnels), and turns out we both like Lego, old computers and other similar stuff. He gave me a discount, which meant I got about £30 off the cost.

Also, last week we had our fifth wedding anniversary, so went to Carluccio's for a slap up meal. At the end of the meal, I had one of their thick chocolate drinks (I love those - I think me enjoying was noticed by the person who had made it). The waiter asked if we were there for any special reason, so my wife told her that it was our anniversary, when we left, at the door we were given a bag. In it was a tin of the powdered chocolate used to make the drink, and some chcolates. So that was a nice end to the evening out.

I saved about £85 on my car insurance renewal today. \m/
I got my renewal quote last week, called my current insurer on Friday and they had to check something then get back to me today.
The called me back today and offered me a whopping £3 reduction on the renewal price they sent me last week.
I'd already been on some price comparison sites and had quotes for what I could get insured for, so told them the one I liked and there was no way they were going to match it, so I switched provider.
Right at the end of the conversation they asked me to check them next year when my insurance is up for renewal.
I'll prolly just use the price comparison sites again, to be honest.

Mark

Ah, the joys of insurance.
I had to renew my breakdown cover. The AA were quoting me £71 ish for the cover they are happy to sell to new members for £59.
One phone call and they suddenly have a special offer of 3 months free which reduces my premium to £53, oh and they can automatically apply it next year as well.
I will of course be seeing what they try next year but all in all not bad for 5 minutes effort.
