Maybe they will realise what a stupid idea it is, and stop.
I don't see it stopping at this stage. Nether Labour or the Conservatives have expressed any indication that they'd reverse on the referendum result, sadly.

Love that game! It's interesting as you do need alchemy logic rather than scientific.

I've lost the entire morning to it... Plus, put time and space together if you haven't already...

I'm eating a Belvita biscuit and for some reason my mind goes back to primary school eating Lincoln biscuits.

I wouldn't be so sure. I expect the EU to make the deal so bad when it comes to trade and London banking access to the Euro, that the government will be forced to hold another referendum on whether to accept the deal or stay in the EU.

My Doctor’s surgery. I got a letter form them the other day, and there’s a piece on their website saying much the same (and going into a little more detail. The long and the short of it is that the sole partner of the practice has been unable to recruit another GP Partner to the practice. So, for some reason (not given), has decided to hand back his contract to the NHS. I’m not exactly sure that that means “handing back his contract”? I guess he’s resigning then. Does this mean the practice is a dead-end?

Anyway, it seems that there will be a temporary person in place for the next year, while they go through the processes of finding someone new to do the job.

We’re told that in the meantime, we can continue to keep using the practice for primary care stuff. It’s a bit concerning. All the language used about the contract has a whiff of “privatisation” about it (I know GP surgeries are largely private concerns). I may formulate an email to send to the address given to air my concerns when I’ve had more of a think about this. Considering they keep my asthma in check, it does concern me that the practice may close, move, or merge with another in the area and access to care will be affected as a result.

I don't know the details of your practice but generally by and large the small practices with one or two GPs are being strangled out of existence by the Govt. Money is being clamped down. Crapita are in charge of payments to practices and have been slow in doing so (taking 6-12 months to pay in some cases). Increasing demand, increasing workload and falling income means it's not favourable to be a GP currently. I don't know whether your surgery only ever had one GP but if they can't find a replacement, either the surgery gets shut down and patients are sent to other local practices, or someone else (either another practice, or NHS England) takes over the practice. If it's NHS England, they'll usually just employ locums. Some practices have been taken over by hospitals.

It’s a practice with 1 senior partner, a couple of GPs, a registrar (there was one last time I went), and a couple of nurses. There were 2 senior partners, but one retired a couple of years ago and it seems that they have not been able to replace him. My named GP (I usually saw him, but it was always pot luck) left summer in 2015, and two more were brought in to fill the spaces left by the two who left. It is a small practice - certainly in comparison with the one I went to when I lived in Watford which seems to have evolved into a mini hospital according to my parents. It was heading that way when I moved away.

A 3-GP practice is on the smaller side but depends on the coverage. Bear in mind, some practices have 1-2 GPs and others might have as many as 10. If there's a struggle to fill the posts, the issues will be down to why the job isn't attractive. Could be anything from location to workload to risks - in this day and age, there's a lack of GPs who are either partners or salaried. More and more are locumming because it allows flexibility, greater income and minimises risk. Smaller practices are being starved of funds and I've known some where the partners have paid staff out of their own savings.

There is a Govt agenda to strange small surgeries and have large practices covering 30,000 or so patients - very much akin to the smaller hospitals. You may even get additional services at such places eg onsite imaging, allied health care such as podiatry. Thus they become mini-hospitals. People will have to travel further. In turn, smaller hospitals are being closed down and people are having to travel further for specialist care.

Having lots of smaller practices offer greater choice and better patient care, with higher scores on patient satisfaction questionnaires. Larger multi-practice centres have poor continuity of care and lower satisfaction. So some cynics argue that the Govt is doing this because lots of smaller practices is harder to privatise than a single large centre.

Interesting, the Germans are now prosecuting street racers who cause a fatal accident with first degree murder.

A couple of racers, who cause an accident on Kurfürstendamm in Berlin last year, killing an innocent motorist, as they shot through the 30mph zone in excess of 100mph.

They have now been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Another big accident last week, where a racer lost control and ploughed head-on at nearly 100mph into an oncoming car, have also been charged with murder.

And today the Bundestag has signed off on a new law. Racing on the streets can get you up to 2 years in prison and if you kill somebody, up to 10 years.

Good. We should have that here too.
