You got AS the same as me Doesn't matter how much sleep I get or the quality of sleep, I wake up every morning as tired as anything I'm off down the leisure centre now for a jolly good steam/sauna/jacuzzi/swim and to watch the young ladies getting all sweaty in the gym. I have a reputation to maintain you know....... Al

I may have to mention that to my osteopath next time I see them.

I've never been able to drop off to sleep. I just can't do it. There are times when I will fall asleep fairly quickly, but other times the brain won't kick out of gear and I'll lay there wide awake. That's when I resort to the radio or the iPod. Most times it works, but it failed to last night for some reason. I have tried various games and routines to help me drift away, but again, they sometimes work and sometimes not. The only really reliable method I've found has been a glass or two of red wine of an evening, but since we've voluntarily been off the booze this year even that has fallen by the wayside. While I'm not actually having to get up and go out to work at the moment, I can get away with dossing about during the day and having an early night to make up.

Have you tried milky hot chocolate? If I take a mug to bed with me that usually sends me off. Not much good if you don't like milk though. I usually have the TV on a low volume and that helps me sleep too. Put it on a timer of course so it's not on all night - usually to 30 mins and I don't hear it go off....

When I was living on my own I always used to leave the radio on at night. In fairness I didn't have much trouble falling asleep back in those days, as I used to practically live at the pub!

I need to crack out the Horlicks again, I think. That usually had a calming effect. I do try to avoid stimulants like chocolate, sweet stuff or coffee too late in the evening.
