President McKinley made Roosevelt the Assistant Secretary of the Navy in 1897. When the Spanish sunk the USS Maine off the coast of Cuba while his boss was on vacation, Roosevelt sent Admiral Dewey to the Philippines to take out the Spanish Navy. Roosevelt then declared a state of War with Spain, despite the fact the he had absolutely no authority to do so. Acting on Roosevelt's orders, Dewey then sunk the entire Spanish fleet at Manila in about four hours.

I try my best to avoid it also but mainly because what is posted is incredibly boring I just think to myself "does anyone give a damn?" "who actually cares about this?" "here we go, another dull laptop/mac/windows/pc thread again *yawn*" same goes for quite a lot of meeting place threads, they just wanna make me go to sleep, I think im in the wrong forum but ironically this forum is not relevant to any of my interests exept the photography part and sometimes experimenting with the eccentric beings of x404

The croissant, that quintessentially French breakfast pastry, is an Austrian invention.

Quite possibly. My point being the modern croissant appeared in Paris in 1839 or so, after an Austrian soldier set up a bakery. There is plenty of evidence that similar pastries have been produced for many centuries across the Mediterranean region.

I didn't know about the Austrian link. It doesn't surprise me, thinking about it, as they love their pastries and breads from what I've seen/eaten (too much of) when I've been there.

For people that work in the computer development industry, a fair few are incredibly lacking in even basic knowledge on things such as software licensing, creative commons and GPL
