Dell would like me to do an update. On Xmas Eve. What could possibly go wrong?

I have a new policy of only taking updates if absolutely necessary... For anything.

It's in Whitby, Yorkshire coast IIRC. Just type Google Maps after it.

Not IN Whitby, but near. It's a bus journey away, or if you like a walk, you can get there along the coast if you walk along the cliff path.

I've never been a massive meat eater and generally find red meat upsets my stomach. So historically I've tended to stick to white meat. Swmbo has been vegetarian for years (I gather she changed her attitude to meat when she saw animals being killed and butchered into meat).

Consequently, my diet is these days pretty much vegetarian as we both can't be bothered to cook two separate meals. If I really want to, I'll cook some fish to go alongside my meal. But Quorn is one of those things I struggle with both to think about and to eat. It doesn't taste particularly nice IMO. Tofu - I've learned to get along with tofu since it's one of swmbo's staples and will have it frequently. I just prefer the extra-firm stuff as opposed to the stuff that's like blancmange.

There was only one vegan I knew. He was my father's friend and despite living a vegan lifestyle since childhood, he passed away in his forties from a heart attack.

I had to cook a roast meat free thingy for the bloke Xmas day (I had turkey). It looked disgusting and tasteless but he seemed to like it. He gave me a vegetarian sausage roll as well over the weekend. I didn't eat it all... nuff said

I'm going to view a house on Wednesday and the estate agent suggested I contact their mortgage advisor. I was incredibly cynical as usual lol, and they forwarded me this to fill in

Mortgage Research:

(Per Applicant)
Name:
DoB:
No of Children, Names & DoB’s:
Current Address, Time at Address:
Occupation:
Basic Salary:
Other Salary:
Credit Commitments (Credit Cards, Student Loans, HP):
Purchase Price:
Deposit:
Preferred Mortgage Term:
Preferred Monthly Budget:

Am I missing something or is that putting me at a total disadvantage before I even view the house, never mind negotiate? And ffs, the full details of my non-existent children?!

Don't provide any of that information to anyone until you have decided if you like the place enough to make a formal offer.
If you're looking at places to buy, surely you have a mortgage (or mortgage in principal) agreed with a lender already.
If you don't want to use the estate agent recommended lender, don't use it.

No mortgage or agreement as yet as I know I won't have any trouble getting one, let's put it that way. This'll be my first home but there's no problem putting down a big securing deposit or having my solicitor draw up something, whatever works best for me anyway.

It wasn't luck, more sheer pigheadedness...

As Mark said you would have to have a mortgage agreed in principal before you can put an offer in on any property

You need to be able to demonstrate an ability to cover the offer you make which is either evidence of actual funds (as in a cash buyer) or have a mortgage offer. Otherwise the seller won't take to offer seriously.

Completely agree with the above - don't give that info.

When we were buying our first home, we looked at what we could borrow for mortgage. This gave us a ballpark of what we could afford. It did take us a few viewings before we realised exactly what we wanted and didn't want. Initially it was "must have garage (at least for storage if not car) and downstairs toilet". On the first viewing, I realised some houses in the area we were looking had no access to the garden except through the living room patio door - useless if we wanted to do gardening without dragging mud through the whole house. Another had a combined open plan kitchen and lounge area whereas we wanted a kitchen separate from any living rooms.

It was only then that we were able to narrow down what sort of house we were after. We applied online for a DIP/AIP before making an offer. The EA did ask for proof of DIP which I emailed. I did have concern that if they could see we could borrow up to say £300k but the house price was £250k that they might try and bump up the price.

That about sums me up - I'll have no problem proving income or bank balance to show I'm serious. My needs for the house are in flux at the moment because fcuktards, so haven't applied for a mortgage agreement yet. But as I say, trust me that it won't be a problem either way. Hell, I might not even need a mortgage as nothing is set in stone yet.
