Made an offer on a house where the owner is desperate to sell so we took the opportunity to knock a bit off - plus we're first time buyers, ready to go, no chain, etc etc. That same day we made the offer the estate agent called back to say someone else has now made an offer similar to ours and with the same circumstances. That seems like a bit of a coincidence to me.
They said they want both parties to make their best offer by 5pm today with proof of mortgage in place and the owner will pick the best one.
Now I really want this house so was going to offer the full asking price but my wife spoke to a friend today who recently sold her house and said her estate agent told her buyer the same thing even though there was no one else interested. Wow. Dirty bastards.
So now I can not revise my offer and call their bluff (but risk losing the house) or pay full and get the house but possible get played.

What, dirty tricks from an estate agents? Surely not!
Call their bluff and watch the colour drain from their face as they see a sale slipping away.

That does seem deeply suspicious.
I'd be tempted to go back with a lower offer just to annoy the agent but I'm not in the position to buy a house I like. The greatest power in such a big transaction is the power to walk away.

If you are not desperate for that house, go for it!

Yes, went as planned. Had another Brit in the room with me. He was on holiday and had ulcers removed. He wasn't as lucky, he was back, because he was still bleeding.

I hope the hotel I'm staying at tonight does nice food. Their website talks about breakfast, but there's no mention of a restaurant for the evenings.

Apparently.... Looks like I'm having pizza for tea tonight. I hope the pizzeria takes credit card, because I've got just enough cash (Danish Krone) for the bus fare to the hotel, and I'm not paying exchange rates for more.

Pretty sure I want to take a year out and volunteer or teach English abroad in China or Japan. Not really sure where to start so some time today will be allocated deciding.
Anyone else done similar? Maybe this needs a thread...it's definitely something I want to do, I just don't know the right way to go about it.

My friend did this for over a year in Japan via the Jet programme. He really enjoyed it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks Most of the feedback I've seen has been positive however it appears most companies want a degree of some kind - which I don't have - so for now that part is on hold. Volunteering or teaching English elsewhere is still an option though. Watch this space.

Passed my second exam today. Law exam is on Monday morning, non-response driving assessment is Tuesday and we start driving on lights and sirens on Wednesday. Next week is going to be exciting!!
