No, they can't do it. They certainly can't do it with existing contracts without the permission of the other party (which they won't get). To do it in future they'd have to put a clause saying so in any future contract and I think pretty much everyone else involved - agents, performers, Equity etc - would object to it. And also the factor that the vast majority of major names aren't employed by the BBC (I'd suggest everyone outside the news department actually) and in fact most of the shows on it's channels aren't even made by the BBC - thanks to a previous conservative government by the way - and therefore the contracts between 'star' and production company are none of its business.
They stripped the BBC of it's power to make content directly and in the process stripped it of legal responsibility for how that content is made. They can't have their cake and eat it.
It's yet another ludicrous BBC-related idea from the Department of CMS that even a half wit would look at and say 'you know this is really stupid, don't you'? I know there's a logic that you announce ludicrous stuff, pull it back then announce what you actually intended in the first place but they'd better get round to doing the latter bit sharpish before they have no credibility left whatsoever.

Bummer. Sorry to hear that. Is there a realistic chance to keep you job (or on similar)?

No idea until tomorrow's meeting - they just felt the need to tell me on Friday to [LIFTED] up my weekend.

Did it happen to be towards the end of Friday by any chance? Get the bad news out when people have little time to kick off is pretty standard HR practice. Gits. Hope it turns out alright on Monday.

Hope it goes well on Monday.
I'm other news, it looks like, while upgrading the operating system, I've managed to completely bork my Hackintosh installation. I'll give some thought as to whether to repair or reinstall but luckily, and by sheer coincidence, I performed my first ever time machine backup, just before the upgrade which should make it easier.

It's up and down - I imagine I'll find out soon enough. Friday morning about 8:30 actually, so I've had three days to stew. I wonder if they do it on purpose, knowing that you won't get much sleep all weekend - so you're not at your sharpest when sit down across a table from the pair of asshats?

Unfortunately, a subset of people I know post some rather dubious stuff on Facebook from time to time. yesterday is was a rant about how there are no charities collecting for the forest fire disaster in Canada, but if a “Muslim farts” all the cash goes to them. Thankfully, I was able to point them to the Red Cross website, whereupon I was told that I was “very well informed” (not sure if that was sarcastic or not). Now the same bunch of people are sharing those “MP debating their pay” images. The ones that have been debunked here: http://blogs.spectator.co.uk/2014/11/th ... sand-lies/So I’ve posted that link (and a link to a similar article in the Metro). we’ll see what happens. Sadly, club politics seems to require that I am “friends” with some of these people. They seem to be highly sensitive to the Dog Whistle. One is particularly odious, and I kind of see him as a lightning rod. Some of the stuff he posts (from groups like the BNP and other race hate groups) attracts “likes” from others, so I have a picture that I’m not always comfortable with. Every now and then, I like to post corrections, but I know I’m beating my head against a brick wall with them.

Moving to a detached house whenever that happens - I was gonna go out our back and actually enjoy the sun, but no, screaming kids and a bunch of people overlooking our house. Not to say anything of the neighbours who, if not smoking some rank cigarettes, are cooking up something seriously strong-smelling in the kitchen they never close the door of.

Awkward moments. I thought I'd left these behind but obviously not. Went to the local tyre place to order some new tyres. On the way back, I thought I'd pop into Homebase to buy a watering can and have a gander at some gardening stuff. Went to the gardening section and slowly worked my way round. About halfway, I realised I'd been absentmindedly following a young blonde round the aisles. Figured I'd best move on before it looks too dodgy. Stopped on the way out to check out the garden strimmers in the main shopping area. Went to pay up and ended up behind the blonde. Figured I'd walk to my car fast and head out. Was parked right next to her car and we reached out cars at the same time.

Oh dear. Reminds me a little bit of this - clickety (from about 2:30 - the horror of bumping into your neighbour for the third and fourth time in a day).

Where I live in Belfast sees me scanning every person and car that goes by the place is so small and I'm that afraid of people thinking I'm being ignorant. This of course means you can't relax and also leaves you looking like a nutter.
The second I have a thought to myself I blank someone I've known for years, or someone my bloody mum knows.
