Do you have to put a florescent orange plastic thing on the end of them these days, like they do with the plastic toys?

Thinking of buying a new laptop today...
I waited for Apple to update the MacBook Pro line, but they have failed badly. I want a quad core i7 and 8GB of RAM. They don't have any Core i7 QMs in their line-up, and 15" the Core i7 dual core, with 8GB with 1680x1050 display costs 2.600€. I am looking at the Sony Vaio, Core i7 quad core, 8GB, 1920x1080 display, 1.299€... I'd love the brushed aluminium case of the MacBook Pro, but I'm not paying an extra 1.300€ for an aluminium case, a lesser processor and smaller display (the 17" MBP is around 2.850€ for the same spec as the 15").

Seems expensive for deactivated to me. But I don't have any market knowledge. I do however suspect that a working one wouldn't be loads more in certain parts of the world.

Seems a hideous waste of time and money to me. What's the point? I'd far rather spend £200 on a Dyson fan thingy, at least I'm far less likely to be shot by the police or become a target for house burglaries. And it'd be useful in the summer.

Haven't you got something better to spend £240 on? I know I have. If you want to chuck money away, send it to me.

That was my initial thought too, and I definitely wouldn't spend that sort of money on it, but I've always thought they looked cool as...

I think that we all have something that we are willing to spend more on. For some it might be guns, others comics or cameras. Some will blow it on designer clothes or holidays. I had an ex who would not buy any clothes all year and then go to the designer sales in January and do all her shopping in one go. It is just preference.

Exactly. My missus thinks I'm an idiot for 'wasting' £140 on a Diana F+ plastic camera yet will glady spend £££'s on haircuts and waxing. Different people have different priorities I guess.

Who gets to define better? He's using his money to buy something he wants. He likes it - you don't have to. Personally I think buying new camera equipment is a waste of money but I try to recognise that you like it, want it and will enjoy it. Consequently I enjoy it because, despite not seeing the value in it, I know you do.

In this case we do, as we all know that bratty would spend that money on a gun, (deactivated or not) which he would then put in the boot of his car and drive around, (probably wearing a balaclava and gas mask) whilst scratching Norwegian obscenities into police cars! Sometimes people need to be told that it's not a good idea...

well think of it this way, I only buy things that will last me for life, haircuts, waxes are only temporary yet people (mainly woman or gay people) spend an obscene amount on a do that will muck up when you go to bed again, to me it makes absaloute no sense where as you buy things that last forever or a years or years then it makes more sense @heather: whats your paypal details? ill happily send some money your way crap that reminds me I actually still need to buy timarks print

I didn't specify what I'd spend the money on. I used to throw money about when I was Bratty's age. I learned from that mistake. I now understand the value of things, not just their cost. If Bratty wants to collect deactivated firearms, that's fine. It's a hobby, and it's his money. Some of us - and it strikes me those who have been through some bad financial times over the years - feel he could spend it more wisely. *edit* Bratty - thank you for the kind thought. What The Prof and I said earlier was meant more in jest than being serious. Keep your cash.
