Irony Fail:

We went to Althorp yesterday and we walked to the Oval Lake where Diana is buried.

It struck me that I visited the memorial of a woman who was hounded to death by photographers and the first thing I did was get my camera out.

That's ok, you only normally die once.

Just manage to fire up the BBC iPlayer to catch up on the latest episodes of Top Gear. There was only Episode 3 and two Episode 4! Started watching the third episode and felt like I'd seen it before. After ten minutes, I decided to look things up. Turns out the episode was from S14 back in 2009!

No idea how to view the latest episodes given that I couldn't get them to load when I tried rather recently.

Second fail of the day and it's not even 10am.

Got a genuine Canon battery off ebay. OEM packaging, hologram, instructions etc. "Canon" on battery is crisp/sharp etc. Went to charge it up, orange charging light comes on and looked an hour and it's off. Not charging. Try it out in the camera and it's dead.

Have already left positive feedback but not holding out for much hope if I contact seller.

I'm afraid I will only buy new batteries from sellers on Amazon or proper camera shops. :(

It was a bargain at £20. Anyway, I've resigned myself to it being a fake and will buy a genuine one.

Any thoughts about the aftermarket/compatible ones eg Energizer?

I just received my WS-20 strap from Amazon today. Works beautifully with the G12 and much better than the supplied neck strap.

Personally, I always try to go OEM for this kind of stuff. I know it'll work with the camera and the charger. I don't actually know about aftermarket batteries, mainly down to my semi-blinkered attitude. :D

Just a thought - have you checked your charger is still working?

It seems to charge the battery that came with the camera.

So, ordered a second hand Mac Pro from Studio Macs (see the Mac Hardware thread).
Showed up when I asked for it to. Great.
Doesn't include any software discs - no OS X, no original install media. I'm a bit narked with myself that I didn't spot this in the product description. All it said was that 10.6 was installed along with iLife. Grr.

I don't know how they managed to wangle this, but my next door neighbours are having new windows fitted today. This requires the quite extensive use of large power tools. At 9:30 AM. On a bank holiday. In a terraced street.

They probably aren't going to be popular.

G4S sacks pair who tagged offender's false leg

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-14705328

Quote:
Private security firm G4S has sacked two members of staff who tagged a man's false leg allowing him to remove it and break a court-imposed curfew.

The pair were fooled by Christopher Lowcock, 29, who wrapped the prosthetic limb in a bandage when G4S set up the system at his Rochdale home.

He was then able to remove the limb and break a curfew imposed for offences involving drugs, driving and a weapon.

G4S sacked the pair for committing a serious disciplinary offence, it said.

This could be in the Youtube thread but it seemed more appropriate here.
