I'm thinking of getting a "new" car in a couple of years.
Is it bad I want a DeLorean? (Don't worry, I'll not get one, I can't afford it.)

Not at all, but there's a reason 'Made in Dunmurry' never caught on

Have got to write a blog post for the company I am going to be working for to introduce myself to the world. No pressure!

I was officially made redundant today.

I've got an interview in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. Though I'm more worried about getting a visa than the interview itself. I lost my last job offer as the visa fell through.

Still at least I get to fly on an A380 super jumbo.

Why do others' Spotify playlists always have the weakest version of the song when they're all available anyway? :?

Sorry to hear that. Enjoy your flight.

I am getting gently nudged by my wife to think along these lines too. I expect you can guess what I'd be after.

I got an A in my GCSE electronics, and an A in A-level Physics, but I still get the heebie-jeebies about messing around with electrical stuff, particularly with the thought of using a multimeter to test power to appliances in the house.

At least if I messed up something a 12V bench supply, it would just cut out and need resetting. 240V is a bit more scary.

It isn't that scary. Green to Brown, Brown to Blue, Blue to bits. ;)

Are you talking about house wiring or tinkering with appliances?

I can wire in a plug. I can wire in a light bulb. But if there's an appliance not working, how can i test there's power to it? Example - there's a 240v and 120v shaver socket in the bathroom. Could i stick a multimeter probe in each socket to test the voltage drop across it?

Theory tells me if I stick the red probe on a live wire, and the black probe on the black wire, make sure the multimeter is set for 200-600V, I should be able to read the voltage across and check the wire is live. And if I connect the red probe to the end of the live wire, and the black probe on the bit where the live wire connects, I should be able to measure the current.

But I'm a bit worried about electrocuting myself ever since I stuck a lego piece into an electrical socket when i was about 7-8 years old.

It's been getting a lot of attention for a radio station in this day and age.

One of the sockets in my office was wired up wrongly (live to earth, earth to live), I got one hell of a belt out of that! I couldn't move my arm for 5 minutes and I had dreadful pain in my arm and shoulder for an hour or so afterwards.

The technicians in the production area didn't believe me, when I told them, but after they came up and tested the socket and saw that the earth was under power, they quickly turned off the circuit and re-wired it. Somebody had wired it up wrongly nearly 20 years ago and in all that time, I was the first person to go near the socket!

At home, I changed out the electric motor in the roller blinds in the kitchen earlier this year.
