In France, a lot of people don't get paid for the first 3 days of illness (AKA unpaid leave), so will power through until something very serious. You also have to be 30€ to see the GP, 27€ gets refunded by the state, 3€ is either paid by patient or covered by complementary health insurance.
We've never had a problem getting home visits from GPs at home, even at night when I was a child. I also saw specialists on a Saturday, 2 days notice. From what my mum says, it's not as common anymore these days and they will send you to A&E a lot more readily.

Anyone who's had 5 days off over the last 6 months has just had a meeting with HR.
We're not quite sure why. They aren't qualified to give medical advice. There's been a few flu viruses going around. At least one colleague needed a week off after complications to some oral surgery. Another has an underlying health condition (it actually is lupus).
All hauled away from teaching classes to explain themselves before HR.

I think Amazon might be going all out with expensive Kindle covers or adding some sort of cover functionality to the devices going by the survey they sent me. Pity I got bored halfway through. Questions about dust? Piss off.

Mum's cousin just phoned. Can I edit some video he shot at a concert on his phone last night and "make it look good"? Basically, I put him off (if I say yes and do it, he'll want others doing, and I don't want to to go down that path really). So I put him off. Told him he'd have to get the phone to me somehow, and editing takes up a lot of time. So is there anyone else who he knows who can do it?

He'll probably phone back later. If he does, my excuses will start to get weaker and I'll end up doing it. The thing is I only ever hear from him when he wants something, and whenever he's meant to be at a family event, he's always always late. When my grandma (his aunt) was ill he phoned up NOT to talk about her, but to ask where in Chelmsford is a good place to meet a woman for an Internet date.

My mum’s pretty much said that too. I think he exasperates her too.

I'm on a course and having to do the awkward lunch in the canteen thing. At least we're getting away early.

What's awkward about lunch in a canteen? That's what they're for. :P

It's ernie we're talking about here, so it's probably having to talk to people without stabbing them in the head, or something similar. :P

Small talk amongst 10 people who normally split into cliques? Not good. The tension in my office group is also unreal at the moment.

I had a run in with my HR 'department' recently.

I said she should stop being patronising and talk to me like an adult. She said that's no way to talk to a superior. I said I am not even the slightest bit interested in office politics and I have no superiors, I treat everyone equally, as human beings, and expect to be treated as such.

She's been very much more polite to me over the last couple of months.

That, short of Cap, the best we can probably hope for now with the Marvel films is 'just OK'. We seem to be in Empire Strikes Back territory in terms of tone across the franchises, and I think a bit more humour instead of yet more building destruction is needed. Bit different if it's the Hulk, like.

They really need to dial back the crossover references IMO too; it's just boring now there's been that many films and they're announced years ahead anyway. There's no surprise value.

I've found yet more sites with articles on TV and film that I'm really enjoying
