Actually, I'd argue it's gulls and magpies before cats. We get gangs of magpies around our neighbourhood in the spring, and the local birds do their best to keep them away from nests. The hordes of black-headed gulls are also a menace. Our mogs are so well fed they don't even try to catch birds. They pretend they're interested, but they're too slow.

The last dog died of some sort of cancer, so I'm guessing that eating him would have been unwise, and the one before that disappeared one day and never came back.

Same size and breed as mine. They are wonderful animals, affectionate and intelligent.

Although dogs are eaten in some communities, in general most people don't eat carnivores. The taste is very strong compared to grazing animals like fluffy little lambs. Additionally, carnivorous animals are a lot more expensive to feed. It would not be economical to farm them for meat. Generally speaking, meat animals are killed fairly young while they are tender. Pets are usually kept until they die of old age or disease, and even the tastiest species are not so good in that condition. Of course, in times of serious hunger anything is fair game. By complete coincidence, I had a conversation yesterday about wild rabbits. There are a lot around here, and a friend's dog catches them sometimes. I asked if he could bag the next one for the pot, although I confess I'm quite squeamish so I'm not really looking forward to preparing it.

There's a story that, during the siege of Paris, those trapped in the city were so hungry they killed and ate the contents of the Paris city zoo. Of course, being French, they did so in a series of defined and exquisitely prepared courses for which they actually produced a menu.. You may be eating Antelope but that's no reason to lower your standards. Jon

I don't have a cocker spaniel or a fish tank - the closest I give you is wet springer. New Dog explores the ocean:

lol, he's looked a lot more warm, cute and fluffy in earlier pictures That water is murky! Where and when was that? Looks more like Welsh river water than ocean.
