I know my PC's better as I selected all the components based on performance not price. It's even brushed aluminium, curved & has all those little mac like holes in the front. The mac pro looks lovely but the hardware inside really is from the lower-end of the market (although if I had the money)

I saw what looked like a brushed aluminium car the other day! Whatever next? I don't have the honour of having a macpro but noticed how speedy they were when I set them up. The studio guys and gals are very happy with theirs. They run Pro Tools as the audio editing software and no complaints so far.

Sexy or not your point was the internals are organised. Well so are other workstations. You are clearly blinded by fanboyism. And as for someone explaining why PCs are better... why? They're not better or worse. They're different.

Windows PCs aren't better or worse than Macs - well, go for the cheap end of the market... They are just different. General, every day tasks are accomplished equally well with either. Both are relatively secure - I've been surfing using Windows since 1993 and haven't had a single virus instance on any of my machines. They have different specialisations - where software for specific industries give one or the other platform an advantage. In the end it is down to personal preference. In my case, it is very much down to my mood, as to which computer I switch on...

As someone observed on a blog I read, when he used a PC all he cared about was the hardware. The software was secondary. Now that the author used Mac, he noticed that most of us just care about the software we use. I've noticed something similar - Windows users want to throw the fastest, bestest hardware they can into a case and then (IMHO) stick on an OS that's not that great to use (again, just IMHO). I'd equate it to picking out the finest hand cut cloth, having it expensively tailored into a wonderful suit, only then finishing it off with matching Homer Simpson tie and socks.

Seriously do you need it explained? Are all brands of computer of equal quality to you? Are all screens, cases, keyboards the same? Even if the chips inside are the same? Is every OS the same to you? Is all bundled software the same? Is all aftercare the same? On hardware there will definitely be some better kit from the PC side and there will be some worse kit. The hardware in Macs is pretty nice. The unibody cases on the aluminium laptops are a case in point. Some Macs are better value than most Windows machines. Try buying a good integrated computer with the same form factor as an iMac for the same price. It might be possible but you will have a job on. Some PCs are much better value than Macs. Try buying a Mac Tower system to run games on for the same price as a generic tower running Windows and you will see what I mean. For some people the Mac is better for others it is not. Simples.

You are talking about PC fanboys there Alex.
Most PC users want something cheap from MediaMarkt, Saturn etc. and buy whatever is shiny and on offer. They don't know their dual core from their doppelganger.
Most also don't know there are different versions of Windows, until they turn on their new PC and find that it looks totally different to their old one, let alone that there are alternatives to Windows.
I do agree though, that Apple users generally tend to care more about their OS and software than Windows users.

LOL Compare the meerkat... just when I got that damn saying out of my head! I think Alex put it perfectly - PC user seems to be into the hardware and mac people the software. I've just been giving my opinion as an IT worker of 16/17 years. There is no guarantee that anyone would agree with me or that I'm not just spouting a lot of twaddle <--- Caz's wealth warning

I throw the latest and greatest hardware into a case and throw Linux at it, not Windows.

Ok guys, I never meant for people to use the word "fanboy". I just found it interesting that at this show there were Macs everywhere and hardly anyway Windows machines. Dave, my Dell XPS cost £2000 when new and is very, very well put together. The wi-fi is probably playing up for a stupid reason I haven't got around to looking at yet and I don't use it that often anyway. Apparently, the power adapter problem is common as they just get thrown in bags and don't last forever.
Thanks to those who answered. CC, yes I need it explained, that's why I asked. I've never owned a Mac, hence I know very little about them. Caz, your explanation makes sense and I suppose what it comes down to is the same as PC vs. consoles for gaming. Console hardware is more easily optimized in software because of it's uniformity. The hardware is vastly inferior to most PCs and from a Windows standpoint that's rubbish. However, console owners (and iPeople) don't care, because their hardware does what they want.
I'm not gonna be switching any time soon as I like my PCs and I'm very used to the Windows way of working. I'm also very partial to gaming! However, I was wondering about the merits of owning one of each for different applications.

If it was objectivly faster then its faster end of. Feeling its faster doesnt come into the equation. If your in a car going 100mph and everyone else is going 100mph it feels like your not going fast but if your doing 70 and eveyone else is doing 30 then it feels like your going faster but your not. Useless analogy but though if your happy going 70 then go for it (at least your legal on a motorway )
