In the Good Old Days, when a companion died, they'd run silent credits as a sign of respect. Mind you, when Adric died, we just made up our own music.

Things change.
In these days they seem to follow a companion death episode with a spectacular episode focussing entirely on The Doctor and the secrets that he keeps.
Long may this continue.

I thought it was a good episode, although I found the soundtrack quite intrusive. There's actually been very title in Who recently that comes from the fact the Doctor effectively exists outside time, which can present useful dramatic opportunities. I also like the fact there are some things it chose not to explain.

I also think the episode titles of this and next week's are wonderfully chosen. Seems an oddly trivial point I admit, but that was a definite brainwave on someone's part.

I don't want to say 'more of this' because obviously that would be pointless but 'more episodes that challenge the viewer to some degree'.

Even the weak episodes in the series have been pretty good. I’ve been enjoying the style and tone of this - more of the kind of gothic Doctor Who I like. I really hope they continue in this vein. It’s been great to see Capaldi given the opportunity to be the doctor and act.

It took me a while to warm to Capaldi as the Doctor, but I have to say he's won me over.

(I know, almost through the second series with him, but what can I say?)

I think it's the little flashes of Tom Baker-esque delivery, and the fact that occasionally he seems to be channeling Jon Pertwee - especially so in the last episode as he crawls to the teleport room for the umpteen billionth time.

I like a show that can get my tear ducts working.

He has been using Tom Baker like tones in his voice more this series. The jacket is a very up to date interpretation of later Pertwee garb. No Bessie (or Whomobile) though.

I think the thing that caught my eye in his first series was his hands. Watch his hands - he really expresses through them. I'd put him at the same level as Eccleston. Tennant and Smith were good, worthy Doctors, but Eccleston and Capaldi are in quite a different league.

I hope we see more of this Doctor before the inevitable regeneration.

Last episode was very good at first but then dragged on through the refreshes, I guess to give feeling of what 1 billion years feels like. As I was duly informed by the clever egg, Capaldi is not the last regeneration!

That's three successive regenerations of the Doctor who have been aged in various ways, Tennant's was aged by the Master, Smith's sat it out until he was naturally ready to die, and Capaldi's Doctor was "aged" using the same technique Scotty used in the TNG episode Relics.

As someone helpfully pointed out on Twitter, he could have saved a LOT of time if he wrote "use the spade" in the sand.

I've just been discussing with a friend on Fb the entire past season of Doctor Who.
I ended my synopsis thusly "I don't think we've had an actor play The Doctor as consistantly well in a single season since the show came back as Peter Capaldi has done this past season."
We then briefly discussed how it's likely that Stephen Moffat will leave the show at the end of the next season and I commented on how my previous comment "has to be because of the writing, not just because Peter seems to have been born for the role".

There really hasn't been much of this past season I would skip if I saw it on the telly again.

Aside from the fact that she didn't like the assistant, the wife agrees with you. I, on the other hand, agree with you entirely. Best Doctor in a long time.

It's only now that I'm beginning to appreciate how good Ecclestone was, but Capaldi is as good, if not slightly better. In my opinion, of course.

Do I have a vague memory of him being on a motorbike or is that wrong?
