So are 2 and 3, in fairness.

A little bit from Bruce on the Evil Dead remake.

Taken - just watched the first film. Very good. I wish Nolan's Batman was as good a fighter.

Nolan's Batman is a great fighter, but he understands that there's more to be a hero than fighting ;)

I really liked Marley & Me but that was probably down to the dog rather than Jennifer

Mission Impossible 4 - I only stuck 40 minutes of it. Take a Bond film where they pushed the humour way too far, say Moore at his worst. That's the sort of thing you have here. Now I don't mind Simon Pegg at all, but if you didn't like him before this really won't help

They could've maybe walked the line if it was genuinely funny, but really, what's the point of a Tom Cruise action flick with sight gags? Literally, too...

The Raid - Worth renting, but that's it. Like many a film these days it's basically split in two. It starts off brilliantly as a brutal, and I mean brutal, action thriller. Just about everything you'd want from an action film is happening, and in the right order... then you get to the second half and it basically becomes a Jason Statham, everybody's a martial artist up for a five minute fight sort of film :(

If that doesn't bother you, you'll absolutely love this. I preferred it when everybody was going Die Hard, myself.

I quite enjoyed The Raid, although he's right about the fact the entire population of the city it's set in (Jakarta?) seems to have had extensive hand to hand combat training. Apart from the batsh!t 'twist' part way through the plot is a step above most action fare too. I get the feeling it's the new Ong Bak though - when it comes out everyone says it's going to change action movies forever but in the end, it remains a one off.

4/5 in Metro today "not Shaun of the Dead but not far off, snappy editing makes up for its faults"
