Potential client spoken to yesterday. To him, it seems that the internet is some kind of magic. He wants people to register their purchases on the web site. I asked him what he wanted to happen to the data once it was collected. This stumped him. "Like when you register a camera - you fill in the form and click the button". He had no idea what would happen to that information once the button was clicked.

Seems that what he wants to do is to print the data out and file it in a filing cabinet.

He'll need kid gloves. In the 1990s, this would be seen as normal. I really don't think he's given it much thought.

So I advised him to gather his thoughts, and have a think about what he wants the site to do. I had caught him on the hop (despite being invited to phone him), so he was not prepared. Still, if I can put something tiger for him that starts to ease him into the 21st century, then I'll be happy.

The thing is I have no problem with people travelling to the ends of the earth, or deepest Kent, to buy my car. Personally, I don't think it's worth it for the poor old thing. If it was some rare marque, possibly, but for a ten a penny 14-year-old Fiat, I think they'd be barking!

The other issue is whether l'Atomo would make the journey back once they'd handed over their hard-earned. This was the clincher in my decision to withdraw the advert and opt for scrapping. Less potential for pain all round, though I might have a little cry when he gets loaded on the scrappie's lorry.
