Half is pretty terrible yes although what's the figure like for the UK? I have a horrible feeling it won't be that different.

I read a thing yesterday by a woman who said that she's done loads of fundraising in the past for Breast Cancer research. At no point during all her fundraising attempts has anyone jumped in and said "What about bowel cancer? What about Leukemia?"

Nobody has ever suggested that Breast Cancer is more important, or more worthy a cause than any other kind of cancer, so why would people think campaigning under the banner of 'black lives matter' means it's more important than any other kind of lives?

People are making a noise about black lives because it's important to them that people understand about the black kids that are getting shot, other people are making noise about native americans because it's important to them that people understand about how native americans (apparently) get shot more as a %of the population, than the black kids. If 'all lives matter' is the campaign you're getting behind, then get behind that, but you can do it without taking the shine off the people campaigning for what's important to them.

Y'see.. this is the thing. No one particular group 'owns' the moral high ground here. One person campaigning to reduce the number of people getting shot by the police does not somehow devalue the fact somebody else is campaigning about the same thing in a slightly different context. They're both there to achieve the same goal - less people getting shot by the police either by error or intent.

"This is my moral crusade, go get your own" isn't going to help anyone get what we all need.

Piss off, you've seen more staged photos than the Game of Thrones furniture. And you never said much when being in the press was the only thing keeping your career alive. You can't deride the press for being scum now when you knew that before and encouraged them.

The argument is apparently that events have suggested that since black people have been the victims int he majority of what the public believe to be unjustified homicides by the police. therefore evente suggest Black lives matter less than those of other races. There's a logic to that argument but in attempting to 'own' the issue in this way, it becomes about race, when in fact it should be about making their police forces properly responsible for their actions generally and ensuring if you give someone a gun and (essentially) give them the right to shoot people int he street with it, you d better make sure a) you do it for the right people and b) you properly train them.

BTW,If you think there's nobody playing identity politics with this, consider the fact here was a 'Black Lives Matter' March in Manchester at the weekend. A city in which no black person has ever been shot by a police officer as far as I can find out and indeed one where there have been more police officers shot by civilians in the last 30 years than vice versa.

I think part of the problem for me, is that I live in a non-English speaking country, so the "black lives matter" banner doesn't make it into the news in such a way as in, say, the UK or USA. Therefore the concentration in the story is about the apparent racism behind the shootings, but the campaign "name" doesn't get bandied about in the same way as in the English speaking press.

The argument here is, that skin colour should not matter, the police shouldn't be shooting anybody and that the shootings seem to have a racist motive.

That said, the police here have guns, but shoot less bullets in a year (the whole of Germany) than the police shot in one incident in LA (something like 20 shots or so). Although if you watch some of the German police dramas (especially stunt-fests like Alarm for Cobra 11), you would think that the numbers are much higher.

Supermarkets often only accept "perfect" fruit and vegetables. If a banana or cucumber has a natural curve in it, you know, like we've had since time immemorial, then they are rejected. Although in Germany there seems to be a consumer rebellion going on, some supermarkets are experimenting with selling "imperfect" fruit and vegetables at slightly lower prices and they are selling better than the "perfect" stock.

That colour... eech. Lambos should be either black, yellow or bright orange. Ferraris should be red.

Oh and they're parked on a fecking double yellow, right next to a bus stop. So they've got the first letter of the registration wrong.

Agreed. That colour looks terrible on a Lamborghini. The strange thing is the yellows, oranges and bright greens that look good on Lamborghinis look terrible on other cars.

Pink Floyd - The Early Years '65-'72 is released later this year.
Loads of unreleased stuff. Listed on Amazon for £376.
Not for me at that price, but I thought I'd bring it to the attention of others here.
I think there's a vinyl version and digital download versions going to be available too.

I will confess I didn't work it out until the reveal at the end but I know it is a thing for a couple of women at work that I regularly have lunch with.
