With iOS and Android, the keyboard is fixed, you can't have multiple layouts and languages, even though the keyboards are virtual, which means that the spelling checker and auto-complete are fixed in one language. When I spend half my time writing English and the other half German, it means that the first thing I've had to do with Android and iOS devices is turn off auto-complete and I generally turn off the spelling checker as well, because a complete page of underlined text is annoying!

I also find the thumb-layout keyboard is very interesting and is a good solution to the additional width of the widescreen tablets, but the best bit, if I am working at a desk, is being able to write with the digitiser-pen directly on the screen and have Windows convert my scrawl into text. It works amazingly well - once I worked out, I couldn't write English text, when the "keyboard" language was set to German! So far, it has been about 99.9% accurate.

Are you sure that's the case with iOS? I have a few keyboard layouts specified, and can switch between them mid-sentence, and I *think* the auto-complete/spelling changes only for the text in the new language.

Yeah, somebody else pointed that out to me last night. It seems that the iPads we have only come with German layout, whilst Windows comes with German and English layouts pre-installed, so I could automatically swap in Windows, which is why I saw it as such a boon! I'll see if I can get hold of an iPad to check it out again.

Mobile broadband in NZ is terrible. I've just had to end the process again, and yet my internet is still working.

Sadly accidents on straight lines are very, very common. People swerve a bit then turn the wheel way too much to rectify and cross the road/flip the car.

Ran out of talent? In a tall, high sided modified Landy? Who'd have thunk it?
NB. It's because of the Land Rover 'I'll tie that seat down with string, that's lovely that is' crowd that the rules on hot rods and restoring classics are slowly getting tighter and tighter. Morons.

I could quite easily see the Land Rover crowd being divided between those who'd tie the seat down with string and those that would weld a large iron girder to hold it in place instead.

That's true.
There's a fair share of morons across most car modifying fraternities.
