We've invented FTL travel and mind reading devices but apparently handheld 2 way radios are now the size they were in the 1970s? What? A lethal disease that puts a halo above your head? What? WHAT?

The 2 way radio was used as some sort of data device early in the episode. And I have no doubt that it will serve some sort of tricorder function later in the series. Also to be fair, present day occupational 2 way radios are still of a similar size.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Considering it comes from the same stable as Spooks, the script was terrible and the acting wooden IMHO.

Ah, well that'd explain it then. I used to work with some people who did a series of Spooks in 2002.
The next series came along, and IIRC, they doubled the number of episodes being made, but the BBC kept the budget the same.
The BBC (who spend £2 million on Ann Robinson, and pay her large hotel costs and taxi fares around Glasgow) skimping on the actual content and writing? Say it ain't so.
As I've said before, it's high time the BBC earned the TV tax.

Heh, yeah that made me giggle when they came out with that - even the actor who said it couldn't be arsed to make it sound remotely plausible!

Meanwhile, in the US, Terra Nova will be airing in May.

So which will be better, d'ya reckon, Terra Nova or Outcasts?

Brannon Braga and Steven Spielberg as executive producers. I know where my money will be.

OK, another Superbowl question.

When they start a play they have to start at the yard line they went down at. But is there a limit to where they can start across the field?

After watching the first two episodes. I think it has promise but could go either way, to classic status or to a load of tosh.
It is loosely sci-fi but toned down. more "gritty" rather than space opera. The biggest problem (apart from a few miscast actors but they may get better as time roles on and they get "use" to the character.) is the huge back story that is not just an elephant in the room but a fecking stampede. Though I believe a lot of this will come out as the series progresses.
My biggest worry is of course it will come good and be a classic just as the BBC can it because its "expensive".

<this may be one of those very few times when im optimistic  >

After watching the second episode of Outcasts with an open mind, and to be honest struggling to keep my eyes open through it as it was so dull, I'm even less convinced. Absolutely nothing happened of note in the whole hour that I can remember. I'm not wasting any more of my time on this rubbish. I really wanted this to work, but it just doesn't. What a shame!

I can remember one thing of note, Mr testosterone militia leader losing his cool at the hostage exchange.

Oh yes and...

Cass - 'I've got blood on my hands.'

Tate - 'Well go and wash them.'

I'll catch the next episode on iPlayer so I can scan through it if needed.

Yeah up against that, Kudos, you lose. Which is a shame, coz I've really enjoyed everything else they do (even the guilty pleasure of Hotel Babylon  )

Yeah, their own goal line! If the opposing defence then hold them and sack the QB, force a fumble, or the ball does down on out of play in the end zone, the team on defence get what's called a safety which is 2 points.

BTW, the best way to learn IMO (and how I learnt my basic knowledge) is to play Madden! I started on the Megadrive in the 90s when the Dolphins were all the rage along with the WWF!

Changing the subject entirely, did anybody watch the new series of Hawaii 5-0 on Sky One on Sunday? It started with a double episode, and I have to say that I though it was rather good.

Any opinions?

Quote:
Yard lines cross the field every 5 yards (4.6 m), and are numbered every 10 yards from each goal line to the 50-yard line, or midfield (similar to a typical rugby league field). Two rows of short lines, known as inbound lines or hash marks, run at 1-yard (91.4 cm) intervals perpendicular to the sidelines near the middle of the field. All plays start with the ball on or between the hash marks.

When the ball goes out or dead, the referees will usually replace it on the nearest hash mark. This is so that the placement is as accurate as possible.

However, if the referees can accurately place the ball in the centre of the pitch they will. For instance, for a PAT (point-after-touchdown), there is a specific mark in the centre of the pitch where the ball starts (either the 2- or the 3-yard line depending on the league).

The important thing, however, is that once the referee has placed the ball, no player can move it except to start a play.

Will definitely catch up with it. This is one good reason:
