Hooray! Another top-ten film list. Rejoice!
This readers poll of top-ten sci-fi films by Rolling Stone actually has some entries that I found surprising - notably 9, 6 and 5.

Hmm.. I'd have 'The day The Earth Stood Still' higher and.. I'm not sure I'd have 'Aliens' in there tbh. It's a great film - one I'd happily watch over and over - but it's rather formulaic in fact and some bits of it are a bit shoddy. I'd replace it either with 'The Thing' (the John Carpenter one) or 'The Thing From Another World' (the B&W B Movie).

The Thing doesn't get enough love in these sort of lists, in my opinion.
Neither does the original Solaris, but then at least that one makes critics' lists, so that's not so bad.

I'm not a good judge of sci-fi cos I like it more action orientated (Aliens, Predator, Terminator). I really love the sci-fi aspects like the life cycle of the Alien, or the conflict and merging of man and machine in Terminator. They're glimpses of a possible future through cinema at it's blockbuster best.

If this actually ends up being made, no matter how it turns out, it'll be interesting at the very least.
