Once it's done though, you don't have to do it again.

A lot of 'free WiFi' is a pain. Often I just forget it and use my mobile internet instead.

I could've done that but I just wanted to see how easy it was to connect, as I have relatives flying in next month and free wi-fi is always handy Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2

Pretty much the only one that's under continuing development is Unison from Panic software, which is good but has some.. idiosyncrasies. There's also Thoth, the developer of which has periodic sulks that go on for a year or two before going back to it. I have a feeling he's not currently allowing people to pay and register it (yes, really, he's actually refusing to accept people's money) so the demo version is the best you get. There are also a couple that haven't had anything in the way of development since about 2008, but that's about it really. Unison is about the only one you could describe as a 'modern' Mac application that has anything like support.

Unison is made by Panic, which also makes Transmit. Been using Transmit for years now and I like it so might give Unison a try. Cheers, Jon. Mark

Friends comment on Facebook got me thinking: "I am currently rewatching Serenity and it just hit me - Star Trek must be one of the very few fictional worlds where the ruling body/government isn't out and out evil or secretly corrupt. I really cant think of another example right now."
Any thoughts?

Buck Rogers, or at least the Gil Gerard version. Government run by a set of benevolent AIs built inside biscuit tins.

Iain M Banks has a few worlds where the controlling bodies seem realistic but not evil.

There always has to be a malevolent threat though.

You could add the government on Babylon 5 station. Though they were forced to secede because of bad Earth gov. Add to that the Borg. One queen but everyone else was equal.

Mmm.. I think attacking, dismantling and absorbing any civilisation they came across probably counts as 'evil'.

Elite follow-up on being kickstarted - developer talking about procedural generationElite is one of those games that I have heard a lot of good things about, but was born too late (in this case about 7 years too late) to be able to appreciate it. With RISC OS being ported to the Raspberry Pi recently and one of my SD cards going spare (old Debian install from before Raspbian) I was thinking about giving it a shot, and might pick up this new release if it's good.

It was very much "of it's time". Playing the original is probably only worth it for nostalgic reasons... despite my spending many nights on it back at college. It was the best game ever, but there had only been about 10 other games to compare it to! I've no idea if there's already been something similar in more recent years, but it seems likely. The thing about Elite was that the scale of the universe seemed vast compared to Frogger, but many modern games are far more complex. One things for sure; any new commercial version is going to get scathing reviews from critics stuck in the 80s
