Fail, that is an RS432 plug, later commonly called 9-pin RS232, so it didn't confuse the not so technical.

In all fairness, the 9 pin D-type connector shares the exact same shell as the High Density 15 way D used for VGA. From that angle, they are totally indistinguishable. However, it's an unlikely choice for a single push-switch.

That's a DA-15 connector, isn't it? Looks wider than a VGA/DE9 connector to me.
