I looked into speech recognition software for our workplace for when the typist retires. Had a fancy demonstration etc. Cost was £2200 or so for one person. Broken down that was £1000 for the software, £150 for the handheld microphone, £600 on training and the rest on VAT. I thought "Bet I could get the software for cheaper".

Had a look around and the medical version of Dragon retails for £1000 minimum!

you do realise speech recognition has been built in to WIndows for around 10 years don't you?

It's not perfect but it's pretty good.

The problem is that they have a captive market.

Yup. Worse still, if I bought the premium version, they've set it so it crashes/doesn't work if there any clinical systems open at the same time. They really have a monopoly on this.

Christ, that's probably a real thing

Don't Google it at work.

In fact, just don't Google it! It's rather on the S&M side...

What? Well someone had to check!

What a generous thing to do. Now google will now start delivering S&M ads to you. ;-)

Yeah I read that earlier.
It's the modern version of having funny names for your PC over Windows networks.

Well "I like Pie" seems suitable for a forumite to use.

The connected network is very 404, and a friend of mine used to have one of the more amusing ones earlier in the article.

Haha @ Jeremy Vine when trying to get two bickering commentors off the line so he can move on with the show.

Listening to yesterday's one and they were discussing that old couple being done for growing canabis and giving money to Africa.
