I currently can’t justify the $149 to buy this, but I’d love this set. http://architecture.lego.com/en-gb/arch ... duct-info/It comes with no instructions - it’s basically a box of bits and an inspirational guide book.

Sounds just how Lego used to be before every set came with over 50% custom parts in make a specific model.

Well I pulled apart the Unimog and decided to make something myself from scratch. I wanted to use a differential and have it motor driven. It took me about 6 hours but it works Hmm... I would put a picture up but tapatalk keeps asking for a username and then telling me "network error".

Anyway. It's a 4x4 vehicle. Uses three differentials (one diff to drive the other two) and it carries the motor and battery pack on board. Lol! However, it has no body. No suspension. Doesn't look very good. It's quite small though and if stepped down the gearing so the motor drives it quite well

Yeah combining technic / eve would be cool, I need to expand my (modern) lego collection a bit, apart from the EV3 I am seriously lacking. Still have boxes of the old school proper bricks around though. Nothing quite like them. I might try and be a bit more adventurous at some point and make a bot that brings me a beer and opens it

In answer to the original question of the thread… This rather forlorn looking little boy is me aged 5 in 1965 being presented with my prize - a massive set of Lego - for coming first in the under 8s category in a Lego building competition that was part of the West Bridgford GEM 1st anniversary celebration. I've tried to find out exactly what the set was on various Lego history sites and my best guess is that is was either the 450 Deluxe Building Set or the 615 Large Basic Set (if anyone has a better idea I'd be interested to know). It was a large wooden box approximately 500 x 500 x 100 with a sliding lid full of basic lego bricks and IIRC, some of the funny 2D trees, sorted into different compartments by type and/or colour. Just the thing to let my imagination run riot. How many other people here are old enough to remember Lego from the 60s? While I was trawling through the various Lego sites trying to identify this et I came across lots of other things that I remembered owning, but also was aware that many Lego items I remember well don't seem to be documented at all. Anyone remember Lego Blueprints? These were like set instructions but completely 2D and white on blue like a real blueprint and were sold separately to the bricks. I had ones for a weird house and a London Bus. Because I had German relatives I used to get Lego that wasn't generally available in the UK like boxes of what were called "Slim Bricks" in clear plastic container with studs on the top and a baseplate to seal it that could be used in Lego constructions. Never seen that anywhere else.

I have seen similar in the UK. I bought a box off eBay just like that. It used three base plates as the lids for the case.
