I scored 3.

These quizzes are always hilarious IMO. I come from a solidly middle class background (doctor and university lecturer parents) but I usually fall into the upwardly mobile working class category, not because I am, but because I have little interest in most of those things that are supposed to be the staples of the middle classes.

I have a Dyson vacuum cleaner, but mine is now positively ancient as it dates from the days when owning one was positively cutting edge, rather than comfortably conventional.

I have vinyl records because I'm old enough to have music from the days when buying records was the only sensible way to own it, plus I was seriously into dance music in the late 80s and early 90s when the really interesting releases were only on vinyl. Also I don't think having several hundred copies of your own records is what the questionnaire had in mind...

I have matching coasters. Why not?

I don't own (and have never owned) an iMac although I have owned nearly every other Mac available over the last 25 years and currently have 3 Mac Pros, 2 MacBook Pros, and a PowerBook G4.

I think they are assuming that anyone who is old enough to have vinyl from the time when it was the only way to buy music should have replaced it with CD versions.

I think if you listen to the vinyls it's fair enough, while expensive and impractical. People who buy vinyls to hang in cases as they " look nice" get my goat.

I have about 3' of vinly down here in the cellar. Most of it from the late 70s and early 80s, as has been said, I bought it, when it was the main way to listen to music - I did have hundreds of cassettes, as well, but they became so stretched through use, that I just threw them all away, when I left the UK.

Yeah, that was one of the questions that bugged me the most. The only reason I don't have matching coasters currently is because I moved recently and a friend is making a set as a present.

The quiz seems to imply that coaster entropy only dips in the middle classes and that when you hit upper classes again, no two coasters match. WHY!?

I'd imagine working class people don't bother/can't spend on coasters just to match one that's lost, and the upper classes just don't care.

The working class don't have coasters at all, the upper class only drink out of cups and saucers.

Actually the upper class drink out of a mish mash of mugs - its the middle class that worry about cups & saucers
