Oh God yes. Especially if they look at you like you're the one whose done it wrong. Don't think I've ever seen someone manage to leave a dirty cup 'on' a wall in a meeting room. Must take quite a bit of force

A guy in work has for some reason hovered over the toilet and made a right mess of the top of the bowl - apparently his fear of the seat also extends to his output, cos he just left it there. Words failed me when I saw that.

Nope, some poor cleaner did. By the way, when I said the top of the bowl, I'm talking about the bit that the seat rests on... Yeah.

So. Here's my latest grind. Last year, I was on two contracts - 0.5 tech, 0.5 teaching. At my appraisal, I told my HOD that this was rubbish. I was too thinly spread between both and neither got the best out of me, because neither role fits neatly. There's always meetings eating into one another hours, or stuff that needs doing in my teaching hours that my lazy colleague can't/won't do. So I asked for either one or the other, but not both.
Now, this term, we're faced with too many students, not enough teachers. At the moment, we've about 4 classes with no tutor. Parents have already rung to complain. My immediate boss said 'How'd you fancy taking on a 0.8 teaching role? Double your wage, and it's a 4 day week.' Our HOD canned the idea this morning.
I've been feeling just... defeated all afternoon. Stuck with my lazy colleague, who's earning more for doing less.
I'm now considering my options. I'll probably deliver the HE unit I've got, because I actually believe in that and enjoy it, but after Christmas, who knows.

Alex, I know what it is like having a lazy co-worker. I work night-shift - as you may know - and there is supposed to be a team of four, so two people are on each night, we are currently running at only two members, so basically 50%. The other guy is the night-shift supervisor. A couple of shifts ago I had to pick-up five calls from his queue that he just left. He knew they were there, he just didn't do them. Apparently he was e-maild about two of them on his last shift, but because the person who mailed him CCd in the SD manager, the guy just threw a wobbly and deliberately didn't pick the calls up because of that. Each call takes about 45mins to complete. On my last shift he left another call in his queue, this was a really simple 5min job, so I texted him and said to him and then he started to get all precious about it and said why was I getting on at him for leaving a call that would only take me 5mins to complete and that he thought we were supposed to be a team. This guy is getting considerably more than me for doing a sub-standard job.
I've also been told by multiple people that at weekends he brings in his own TV and X-Box and plays games during the night.
Nothing gets said to him because it would put the desk under more stress if he was to be fired or he was to leave night-shift as they would have to take from the day-shift to cover his absence.
And really don't get me started on not being able to take my annual leave when I want to because the desk is so short-staffed that I can't be given cover for the days I want off, despite providing about three months notice.

I have a colleague for whom, everything's a competition!! Normally I can just shrug it off but today it's really getting on my wick. It doesn't matter what I'm talking about, everything I say, she responds with "oh yeah, I've done that/been there/had that" and no matter what the subject, the response is always that she's done it bigger, for longer, first or better. The worst thing about it is that I can feel myself getting drawn into actually trying to come up with stuff that she can't possibly have done and I despise myself for it!! I just have to breathe and let it go! I feel an afternoon of mp3-land coming up just to shut her out!!

Do you read Dilbert? One of the characters is 'Topper', I think you may recognise them.

Deliberately start an argument and then make out it was all a misunderstanding. Didn't even happen to me, but it's causing unnecessary tension.
Multiple people have already put in multiple complaints about said person, a boss? Why, just claim the staff aren't doing their jobs right and that's why she's angry! How about she talks to people like they're, you know, people. And stops playing mind games with everyone.

Person phoned me up asking for some emails to be recovered from backup. I explain that this is possible, they mention they're about to go away for six weeks. I tell them they need to get the details to me before they go away because we only keep backups for 30 days.
Guess what happens next?

The brains trust in the IT department. So, IT ordered me a dual monitor stand thingy. It took them about a month to get it delivered for some reason. Having ordered it and booked it in they asked me to install it myself. What the hell, it got me out of doing other stuff on Friday so I put it all together and screwed the monitors on. Shame the screws provided are a bit too long to securely fit one of the monitors (Hanns G HE225). So, having off-loaded the job to me the IT tech signed the job off. That I didn't have a problem with as such. However, as the supplied screws were not suitable for the job I re-opened it and asked them to provide screws that would fit. So they closed the job again. I re-opened it again, re-iterating the problem. Today the IT guy shows up with new screws... the same or longer than the ones provided originally.
I'm perfectly willing to accept the problem with the screws wasn't IT's fault, if anything it's Hanns G's (or am I being weird thinking that the rules for VESA mounts should be pretty standard?). Just please read the reason I've re-opened the issue don't just close it out without actually responding.

More work fail: About 2 weeks ago, my immediate boss sat me down and explained that they needed a teacher for one of three classes currently lacking staff on a wednesday. I nodded, and told him my preferences for the classes I'd like to deliver. "Well, wait for it, remember Jasmin who graduated last year?" "Yes." "Well we're waiting to hear on her availability. So you might only be in place for 3 weeks."
Once I'd stopped laughing, I told him that no, I wouldn't be delivering the classes.
And now, after a shambles involving no rooms to teach in or resources, Jasmin has declined coming back this week.
