End of the episode reference - are they really dead, or is it some kind of communication system that's going wrong due to radiation? I guess next week will tell.

Nice link back to previous Doctors again. One cue card referenced Aberdeen. :-)

I think the Doctor being dangerous is something that's been missed for a while. Not wild ’n’ crazy dangerous (like Tennant's Doctor), but quietly slit your throat in the shower dangerous. I saw Willam Hartnell's Doctor tamper with the fluid link this week, and he had his grand daughter with him. You know where that went.

Mind you, the Doctor was remonstrating about death. He sounded envious of those who can die. Clearly his new round of regenerations is troubling him.

Meh, that was just the live viewing numbers.
It would be interesting to see what the consolidated numbers look like once you've got on-demand viewing factored in.
Just to revisit this post ... apparently with the seven-day catch-up and online viewings you can add another two million viewers.

The viweing figures are remaining fairly solid for the show - in terms of UK viewership. The issue is that fewer people are tuning in to watch it 'live'.
Moving the start time of the show can't help things either.

I know you are only quoting the headline of the article, but Peter Capaldi plays The Doctor. Doctor Who is the name of the show, not the character.
Now I'm off to the Fb page of that site to let them know.

They might argue those single quotation marks. Don't tolerate it, shout, 'I KNOW YOUR GAME!' whilst glaring at your screen...

Watch earlier Who - even Tom Baker is credited in the cast at the end as Doctor Who.

Still, glad to see Capaldi wil, be sticking around a bit longer. In my mental list of actors who have played the Time Lord, he's equal to Eccleston. He can switch emotions on a beat, something that Tennant and Smith couldn't quite do. I like that - makes him seem a little more dangerous. I like that feeling of instability.

Well that was all rather unsubtle and overtly political.

The timing has been ridiculous - it's overrun other programming by an irritating 10 minutes. Yes, I know I could record/use iPlayer, but I'm of the opinion that programmes from a broadcaster should, ideally, dovetail, especially if they are going to appeal to a similar audience. However, the BBC's dancing competition fight with ITV's talent competition seems to carry more weight.

Capaldi's right - Who should be on earlier.

A great episode, BTW. I even thought it was well timed to obliquely reference Armistice Day, especially Capaldi’s main speech with the Osgood Boxes.

Anyway, it seems that this episode also drew some criticism.

Yes, I saw the bit about the criticism. I imagine there would have been rather more complaints if they'd pulled the second part of a 2 part episode.
Also, yes, the Doctors speech was indeed very good.
