Right, time for a bit more elaboration. Contains plot points and spoilers.
Loved the beginning. It showed more of Krypton and the problems it had. The flying creatures thing was a bit weird - I expected hovercraft type vehicles. There was one seen where it looked like Jor-El's hair was on fire. Zod was pretty good - I hated him and was a lot more impressive that the Zod of Superman II. But he didnt' do the "Kneel before Zod" which I wanted him to say. Lara was a MILF.
After that, it all seemed to go downhill. I hated the non-linear sequence, the flashbacks etc. It just didn't seem to work. I'd have enjoyed it more if they'd shown Clark growing up. They really needed to show more of the Kents' input. I thought Costner could have done better as the positive human input. I don't know if he was hampered by the script.
I thought Clark's travel was done okay but it didn't seem to show why he was headed in that direction. Maybe I missed it? Was he just going from place to place, doing good or was he actually heading north slowly? Jor-El didn't get to give Clark much of education like he did in Superman: The Movie. If I remember rightly, he was in his teens when he walked there and then stayed until he was maybe 30 to do his work? There didn't seem to be a "Fortress of Solitude" - just a ship. No kryptonite or anything either. I didn't mind the suit but the lack of a logo on the back was a bit annoying.
The entire film seemed to be a huge battle between the Kryptonians and Superman. It reminded me of the Transformers battles - lots of CGI, explosions etc but no substance. That's what it boiled down to for me. I thought Cavill was going to show some emotion but it seemed to be either slightly happy/amused or really angry. Even Tom Welling did a better job.
Lois was a real hottie but again seemed to do a huge amount in the film than I expected. I kinda loved the interaction between her and Jor-El in the spaceship. But I found there was more Jor-El than there was Kal-El/Clark.
In short, the original 70s films had heart, and Smallville had better acting and script. Man of Steel was Man of $h!t£.

+1 to all that. It's a bad show when a guy (Jor-El) who is in the film for maybe ten minutes total has more impact than the lead. Who's playing Superman!

I liked it.
A small comment regarding IMAX at Cineworld Nottingham though. Go [LIFTED] yourself. Seriously my ears are still hurting today. I have no issues with nice loud movies, I attend the cinema quite regularly and the wife is constantly telling me to turn my 5.1 at home down but this took the proverbial piss. It was genuinely uncomfortable to listen to for the first half an hour or so. I'd love to know what the volume level in DB measured.
The saving grace though was the screen. The film looked stunning. I know some in here have complained about the movie being dark (given it is Zack Synder's movie I am not surprised by this) but it still looked glorious.

Possible MoS 2 villain and casting http://tinyurl.com/kd5x35qThat's the problem with Supe's villains; there's only about three worth mentioning

They missed his last tweet on the film: "My Tweets hardly ever convey opinion. Mostly perspectives on the world. But if you must know, I enjoyed #Gravity very much."

What's priceless is all the mainstream critics and outlets who gave it top ratings are now calling it 'divisive'. The only aspect of it that worked for me was Crowe playing Supe's dad.

Zod's second in command worked for me. Possibly in a different way than you're describing though.

Potential big name to appear beside Bats and Supes? http://tinyurl.com/plezth8They might as well, they're essentially betting the house just with Batman appearing! And Affleck leaves a lot of people cold...

But it wasn't (8+) Perhaps it had one fight too many, but there was some good in there too. I saw it as being like an inbetween film of Smallville, where Supes is in his teens/early 20s, and when Clark finally becomes the Superman that we all sort of expected anyway. It wasn't an entirely rubbish film, but I am hoping for better things from the next one. Mark

This film had a lot going for it as we have both Russel Crowe and Kevin Costner dying onscreen. On that basis alone I would vote it Best Picture without even seeing it.
The truth of it is that the film is actually completely dire and probably the greatest movie disappointment I've had this year.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.
