Why are 80s cars less loved?

My first car was a 1985 Golf Formel E 1.3. I owned it in the 90's mind you.

There are 80's cars I do like though; Ferrari 288 GTO, Lancia Delta, Ferrari F40, Audi Quattro, Porsche 959, Alfa Romeo SZ, Datsun 280 ZX although admittedly all are out of my reach.

In terms of accessible cars I'd agree most are unloved. The Maestro, Montego, Escort, and Sierra of the era do nothing for me. GTi's from the time (205, Golf) are OK but still don't do much for me.
