New cars aren't flash then? Never had a new car so it would be very flash for me.

Not sure a new Kia would be considered 'flash'. A new Aston Martin, definitely so... Jon

A mate of mine owns a Hyundai. It's surprisingly nice, and much better quality than one would be led to believe. I think all the South Korean makers have upped their game in the past few years, and ought to be taken very seriously by the old guard.

My sister owns a Hyundai Coupe. She's dead pleased with it, and it seems very reliable. Hyundais are apparently almost too reliable, with little after care service needed.
FYI, the bloke who designed the Chrysler Crossfire now works for Hyundai on the Coupe model.

They are actually surprisingly nice cars those, given the price (especially if you spend a bit extra and get some of the nicer optionals). Somewhat less quick than they probably should be though, although the 2.8 one isn't bad.... Jon

Just washed the car, popped the bonnet up to let the water drain out of the faux vents (they were cool in '88). Decided to have a look at the area of the rad that was leaking to see how the repair was carried out. Can't see anything. Take the radiator cap off and discover copper particles floating about in the coolant. So - a few things - I don't think the coolant has been changed at all, they've dumped some Rad-Weld (or similar) in the radiator to 'mend' it and I don't think they've installed the rubber mounts like I asked.
Pissed off.

Would I be correct to assume that there's virtually nothing you couldn't do on your car yourself? If I am, why are you allowing other people to cock it up?

I use the main dealer. Reason being is that I can drop my car off, walk to the station, go to work and then pick it up at the end of the day. It's very convienient. I also get free MOT's and free re-tests if any work is needed.

It's a matter of investing in tools etc. Just getting some ramps big enough to get her up on is easily £300. The rad was supposed to be welded by someone the garage knows. Clearly that didn't happen. I don't know how to weld anything let alone aluminium. The other thing that happened was that the junction between transmission cooler and the transmission lines let go.

+1 I work just down the road from the main Ford dealer that I bought my Fiesta from - currently it's under warranty so sticking with the dealer, but after next year I can look elsewhere. The service last month was about £210 which is way too expensive for an oil & filter change, though they also did an engine flush (whatever that involves). Without the flush, the service was around £170. After it's out of warranty I'll take it to KwikFit for the MOT and oil change which is just over the road from the Ford dealers - unless Ford decide to lower their servicing prices.
