Humax make the best boxes. Period.

And Jon, I'm not making him buy anything, I really think a Freeview Box is the right move here.
There are TV's with Freeview HD built in, and not that much either. If you want FreeSat HD as well then you are looking higher up the price structure.
I have a TV. It works. I'm not upgrading it.
So, Humax HD Freeview seems to be the choice of preference.
Off to the x404 Amazon link I go to get an idea of prices.

What about a Blu Ray player with built-in HD Freeview? Many of them now have iPlayer etc IIRC.

Edit - take a look, but I'm having trouble finding ones that aren't also recorders and therefore stupidly expensive!

There's so many of the recorders, and they can be damn expensive too.

This is why I'm saying Humax box. It shows TV, it's relatively inexpensive. What more do you need?

I don't really need a DVR and I'm not seeing many (any?) that aren't. (8+D

If you don't need a DVR, then just search for "freeview hd set top box".

Receiver only, less than £40 on Amazon from what I can see.

But I think Mark wants a box that does Internet for the streaming catch-up services?

I'm not sure there are many that do internet but don't do recording, since it costs relatively little to add the extra feature once the box is that clever already. It takes the same amount of processing power to stream as it does to record and play back.

I did find this which looks remarkably good value at £32 although it only does HD FreeView and iPlayer, not 4oD and the rest:

So far this week we have cleared the garage of 90% of rubbish. For a few more boxes to go through but I think I can get rid of it in the normal rubbish & recycling collections.

That is what a sun tan does to the skin. Along with booze, the two worst things for skin.
