Seriously, vinegar or boil it with a descaling solution in it.

The water here isn't too bad, our kettle is now 3 years old and still doesn't have much in the way of scale. In Bavaria, I'd need to do it twice a year.
I've heard/read about the vinegar thing, didn't know if it was just some sort of urban myth. (8+)
I'll buy some and give it a go.

Mark

Get white vinegar, not malt or cider or a flavoured one :P

Limescale remover or descaler is what you're looking for.
Toilet Duck is a lime scale remover, can I use that? (8+D

I guess you could. However, you would then really have to throw the kettle out and buy a new one.

Get the white vinegar if you can rather than the brown stuff. And open a window when it's steaming. A face full of acetic acid fumes isn't always the most fun thing in the world.
You can also leave it sitting in the kettle over night, but might be best to warn housemates ready for the morning.

Vinegar is acidic and limescale is alkaline.

Just been reading a news article on the BBC, my first thought was Star Trek.

As the nights draw in, I'm really starting to feel the cold in the evenings and I'm not sure why. I wonder whether it has anything to do with my polycythaemia as previously this meant I was warm when others were cold. I may have to break out my thermals and it's 11-12*C Right now.

Glacial acetic acid in the kettle add some water boil and your lime scale will be gone. Failing that some white vinegar works just as well if you don't have access to a laboratory supplier

Given my only dealings are with 200 litre drums of acetic acid, I think I'll give that a miss ;)
I use white vinegar too. Or at least I used to. Thankfully we get hardly any lime scale where we live now.

Nah, me too.

It's weird coz I've been back from Lanzarote almost 9 months and when I first got back 8 degrees at the airport felt arctic! But I figured it would wear off over time. Then I went to -20 in the Alps and since I've been back I haven't felt "hot" all summer with the exception of maybe 1 day and I'm cold all the time. Weird. My brain remembers that 11-12 shouldn't be THAT cold, but it definitely feels it to me.

I've said it so much now that I think "Ed Balls" is now my natural "bang toe/drop things" exclamation.
