It seems I spoke to soon but, having spent nearly a day working on the PC, it now seems stable. Yosemite is downloaded and installed, and seems good. Only thing left to do is pop out and get some new sata cables, as I'm not happy with these "pound shop quality" red ones that I used. Oh, and maybe a fan or two.
