Yeah saw it on Saturday. Solid middle of the road zombie movie, nothing terribly new but then it's not that bad.

I'd take that to the bank, thankyouverymuch.

Yes but I think it cost much more than that especially if you add in the marketing.

You have a point - the budget was apparently $125 million.
Of course, at this point, they haven't taken into account blu-ray, DVD, and all the other home sales.

And marketing budgets are usually double the production costs. So apart from not covering its production it still could have another $120 million to even break even. I thought that the total costs on this film were closer to $200 million including marketing. Yes but for a turkey it is unlikely it will generate really good DVD and Blu-ray sales. Though given time and TV sales it might break even one day.

Can Sony and Disney's joint cinema and on-demand releases combat piracy?

http://www.techradar.com/news/internet/ ... y--1161307

Piracy as an excuse to cut out the middleman? Whatever next?

I think that they are concerned that if they do not sell it online they will lose those sales to pirates. I doubt that. All it will do is savage the cinema sales in Asia. Simultaneous releases would solve that problem, though that would either mean full digital release or thousands of additional prints.

In all honesty, simultaneous release may benefit them more. There are some films I wouldn't bother going to the cinema to watch, but if I could watch them at home instead, I probably would. I have, for example, never watched any of the Fast & Furious films despite into modding my car. But I might be tempted to watch it at home. The price would need to be much, much cheaper than the cinema.

There are many films that are not worthy of cinema release, but if you want it cheaper and I would imagine it would have to be then it could be rental only for a while then for sale after the movie channels have had their time slice. At the moment the cinemas get first showings (6 months) then premium channels and rentals and then discs and finally terrestrial TV three years later. So if it is not to upset those partners it will need to be rental only for a while then available as a download at the same time as the discs are released.

Which studio has had 14 number 1 movies in a row? Quite impressive.

And he is making $20 million for it.

I've seen the film and just learned that Paul Thomas Anderson's trailer for The Master was made almost entirely from shots that didn't make it into the final cut of the film and were edited by PTA himself. I think that's a great idea, I think it's a shame that the film was too dull, I don't really know what was specifically wrong with it, but I got the feeling it felt it was being more edgy and intellectual than it actually was, bland I think is the best word for it.

Not a patch on There Will be Blood.
