School dress codes reinforce the message that women’s bodies are dangerous | Life and style | The Guardian http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle ... -dangerousWhat friggin' decade are we living in? Someone should not be staring at your kids to see if their trousers are 'too tight'! And young girls are a distraction to the male teachers? Investigate the teachers!

It has nothing to do with teachers.
There is a dress code and it isn't being adhered to. We had the same dress code when I was at school, funny, the parents never found problems getting the right sized trousers or skirts. The school outfitters carried the skirts in the right length for every student. I guess in these days of mass production, they don't cater for "atypicals".

It's got everything to do with teachers if they're looking the kids up and down to the extent they know if a pair of trousers are 'too tight', and male teachers are worried about getting themselves into bother one way or another. The school uniform is an outdated concept as far as I can see. It seems to be about nothing other than crushing individuality, which is the last thing you should be doing in a school. The whole 'keeps it affordable and stops bullying' doesn't bear any sort of scrutiny at all.

In other countries where kids wear their own clothes a lot of kids are bullied for not having the latest fashions etc. a uniform also reminds them where they are and how they should behave. It also helps with later life, offices where people can wear what they want tend to have less productive staff & more bitchiness

School uniforms cost a small fortune now, especially for low-income families, and possibly only to have to do it all over again a few months later when the kids have had a growth spurt (I'm a big geezer and my nephew's well over half my height at the age of nine!). I find bullying happens regardless; the nephew has autism and there's bullying going on even within his particular peer group. Bullying will always happen I reckon. My experience of school or work - treat people as adult as possible and you get results. At least that's what I've found. Make people feel important, not just a patronised drone. I truly started learning once I left education and I know many who were the same. School felt like a prison, the same as a job can if you're not reasonably happy about it.

A school uniform is a leveller. It should remove any differences between rich and poor pupils. It also teaches kids to take pride in their appearance, or at least it should do. If they have a blazer or it's compulsary to have a logo on, yes. Most primary schools allow plain jumpers that are dead cheap in supermarkets etc.

If that's someone's online dating profile I don't reckon much to their chances.

Sounds like a bankrupt, corrupt council will try anything to get a big of cash back into their coffers.
