was told to stick a gun in the back of a brand new truck trailer as it had a problem with it and needed welded, water washer hose gun that is, very powerful one, the computer somehow got water in it and completley rendered it fully broken. computer alone costs £14.000 :P

not really my fault as they are supposed to be waterproof

£14k? That's about an hour of rig time.
I'm sure I've wasted that plenty of times before. ;-)

I think that many employees could find an example within their company of stupid losses.

I'm not even talking stupid. I'm just talking day to day activity.....
Are the shakers clean yet? No give it another fifteen minutes.
There's a few grand right there. I could have said yes, but I didn't.

On a rig though any downtime is going to be very expensive in the millions per day. When the local supermarket suffered from a landslide it was losing a £500 000 a week. It was closed for weeks.

A smashed up mac laptop was brought to me at work once. He'd been using it in a cab somewhere in Asia when the cab breaked suddenly.

Another person managed to drop one down the central bit of a 3 story stairwell.

£3.5 million for me but from my point it was a success. I stopped a temazepam oral solution having its shelf life extended.

I've had a couple where the user has put the case down next to the car, then forgotten about it and have driven over it.

One even did it deliberately. He was stuck in a field in Asia and couldn't get his Mercedes K Wagen out of the mud, so he wedged his pc under a rear wheel, got enough grip and drove out of the field. He then went back, grabbed the PV, washed it in a local stream, then carried on with his work. The old Husky mobile PCs were really tough.

That really should be in a tale of win thread. Not for the company obviously. :)
