Messing about with my new Xperia Pro, if you see any posts that are even worse than normal you'll know why ;)

I think it's cultural.

In Spain and Italy, people drop by all the time. But here, I always call or text first. Both ways have their merits, but in the UK it's my guess that more people prefer the prior arrangement than not.

I got used to random visits when I was at college. Nobody had a phone or any other way to contact them, except by post.

I continued to randomly drop in on some closer friends when I had my first job. I drove around a lot, but had no mobile. Always seemed rude not to drop in on the off-chance while I was passing.

These days, everyone has a mobile so there's no more need for sponteneaity.

I love people randomly dropping by, but my wife doesn't. Shame as I do miss it a bit.

That's not paranoia, that's 'being thoughtful'.
I'm just not someone who'd drop by on the off chance that:
A.) You're at home.
B.) Not busy doing something.

Often I'd imagine that you're:
A.) At home but about to go out.
B.) At home but wanting to be alone.

Otherwise you might have asked me over to enjoy my company.

I might have asked, but I'd be worried I might call you at a bad time. After all - you'd have called me if you wanted to!

True story!

However, do you feel more awkward standing on the door step being politely told to piss off, or on the end of the phone (presumably not parked at the end of the drive)? ;)

I might add that, by randomly dropping by, I mean, calling and saying, "I'm thinking of coming over in the next ten minutes/hour are you keen?". Unfortunately my wife needs more than a week's notice.

Snap. That's what I mean too. Not a written invitation requesting an RSVP.

well with one of my female friends I can only see her certain times cos her bf is the most possessive paranoid one ever, he would cause a [LIFTED] if he found out that she has male friends, so on her mobile I have a female name ;) sometimes when hes not offshore and off to football I visit and quickly have to leave before he arrives, big feeling of paranoia, almost got "caught" as she was on the phone to him and I was sitting next to her and she asked me a question and I was like "..... ?" and he was like "who are you talking to who are you talking to?" and she says she was talking to herself
