I encountered a new form of CAPTCHA today. It made me watch an advert for a film and then type the name of the film and the release date.

New way to advertise?

That would make me never want to use the site again.

When I first looked at the image

It looked like an MacBook Air with ASUS on the back.

Celerons are so called because they're actually made from sticks of celery.

The early ones might as well have been :-)

Auction Fever

I've been keeping an eye on a SCUBA tank that's been listed on the NZ Trade Me website. As it was non-Nz spec I was hoping to be able to pick up a bargain, and be able to bring it up to standard cheaply through my work.

My cut off point was $80, and the item sold for $295! The funny thing is that on the retail side of things you could have brought a brand new similar item for $275. However as it was not NZ spec the new owner must go through the following on top of the purchase price:
$120 application for an SP LAB number from the government, no guarantee of acceptance.
$90+ for a suitable valve.
$50 for a hydrostatic test.

(I would be able to get all of the above done for $120)

I'm expecting a naive owner this tank to come into our shop in the next couple of weeks to get it 'tested'. Otherwise it will be someone illegally filling their tank from their own compressor. Anyone in the industry would not have paid more than retail.

My boss bought the 12" non-touch version for his daughter, cost under 200 quid for 12" 1366x768, 4GB RAM and 320GB HD, no OS.

Nice! Win 8 is actually a downside with the one linked above IMO.

I love little laptops. That probably knocks spots off my single core low-power netbook, and is actually cheaper when you consider all the upgrades I paid for! Mind you, I've had it for over 3 years now so progress is to be expected - it was a bargain at the time.

A netbook I sold recently was a single core Atom, 1Gb, 160Gb, 11.6 *768 res screen... I'd bought it new originally for £200 and was rather miffed to hear my mate's dog had broken the screen; apart from the lack of an HDMI port it was a computer that suited most situations :(
