Confirmed: Marion Cotillard in talks to join ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, new locations, rumours revealed

Yesterday news broke that Marion Cotillard would be joining the cast of The Dark Knight Rises, and today we have some new details. A rep for Cotillard revealed exclusively to The Hollywood Reporter that the actress is indeed “in discussions” but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Marion Cotillard is expecting her first child this spring, and is currently going over any scheduling conflicts that may interfere with The Dark Knight Rises. According to THR, Cotillard would have to be ready by June to shoot in London, and then Los Angeles and Pittsburgh for the rest of the summer. She would wrap up filming in November in New York. While it’s still unclear what role Cotillard is in talks for, it certainly seems like it’s a big one.

THR also notes that Christopher Nolan is meeting with other actresses for Christian Bale’s love interest. According to insiders, Nolan has met with Kate Winslet, Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts. Again, it’s unclear if these actresses are competing against Cotillard, or if it’s for a completely different role.

Deadline has promised to bring some “clarity” to this recent news later today. Stay tuned to Batman-News.com for the latest on that development when it happens.

...

I can't help thinking this film's gonna struggle when compared to TDK, maybe even BB :|

D.J. Caruso in Talks to Direct PREACHER?

Nordling here.

Our friends at Slashfilm put out a story yesterday that, dependent on the box office of I AM NUMBER FOUR, it's quite possible that D. J. Caruso may direct a film adaptation of Garth Ennis's comic series PREACHER. PREACHER concerns one man angry at God for abandoning His creation, so he hits the road with a punker vampire and hitwoman/girlfriend to find Him. Along the way he gains the power of God's Voice, which commands those who hear it to do Preacher's bidding, no matter what. The comic's ultraviolent, funny as hell, and the end is actually very powerful. It's a really terrific comic and I'd imagine it would be very difficult to adapt. It's going to offend someone, and it's supposed to. It wouldn't work otherwise.

My review of I AM NUMBER FOUR will be out on Friday, so all I'll say is this - PREACHER has to be all or nothing. It's irreverent but still pretty epic in scope and to use a trite expression, you can't cut corners. PREACHER deals with subject matter that no matter how gracefully handled is bound to piss a large amount of people off. But if a director is willing to risk it, they can create something special, thought-provoking, and with some truly great moments. It won't be an easy job juggling all that. If Caruso is in the running, I hope he's up to the controversial nature of the work, which for it to succeed can't be sugar-coated. It's a mean and brutal story and it should stay that way.

Guy Ritchie to direct XERXES?

300 was a boon for Warner Brothers and for Zack Snyder, propelling his career and WB's profit margin. It was probably a matter of time before another film would be announced, and sure enough, XERXES, based on Frank Miller's upcoming prequel, got greenlit for Snyder to write and direct.

But since Snyder's obviously busy with SUPERMAN, he can't be two places at once, and so Warner Brothers has decided to offer another director the project - none other than Guy Ritchie, according to Vulture. I like Ritchie as a director and I liked SHERLOCK HOLMES quite a bit. It would be interesting to see his take on Miller's work, if this happens. Considering that Miller considered 300 "deliberate propaganda" will his XERXES be an alternate take of those events, or document Xerxe's rise to "godhood"? Time will tell.

The article speculates that WB is worried about SUCKER PUNCH and how it will be received. I can't wait for SUCKER PUNCH myself, it's got robots, and samurai, and hot chicks, and guns, and dragons, and explosions, and maybe more hot chicks, and Scott Glenn - it's the perfect geek fetish movie. It's probably a palate-cleanser for Snyder, and now that he's gotten all these images out of his system he can put his full attention on SUPERMAN. I'd imagine that SUCKER PUNCH won't be for everyone; like WATCHMEN, it plays to a niche. We'll all know soon enough in March.

Wasn't Xerxes the slightly camp opponent in 300? Haven't seen that show in ages... :?

Ritchie's hit and miss unfortunately :(

Yes. He was the Emperor of Persia who invaded Greece and was.. well.. strategically delayed by the Spartans at Thermoplyae.

Yes but you cannot ignore the efforts of the Athenian navy that also created problems for the Persian resupply.

Well the point wasn't to explain the whole second Persian invasion of Greece, just to explain that it was indeed the right person...

Matthew Vaughn to bring in THE GOLDEN AGE of superheroes!

Nordling here.

Matthew Vaughn can't seem to quit the old superhero genre, can he? With KICK-ASS representing the youthful superhero, and X-MEN: FIRST CLASS representing the superhero in their heyday, now he's going into the retirement years with his hopefully next project, THE GOLDEN AGE, according to Deadline.

In THE GOLDEN AGE, based on a still-to-be-released comic by Jonathan Ross and Tommy Lee Edwards, elderly superheroes come out of retirement to help their grandkids when their middle-age parents threaten disaster for the world. Vaughn thinks the success of movies like THE EXPENDABLES and RED make the time ripe for a project like this. "You have these great star names and they’re mainly playing supporting roles now. I want to give them the lead again and let them have some fun.” His cast wish list includes the likes of Clint Eastwood, Warren Beatty, and Jack Nicholson.

The idea of retired superheroes is nothing new, but can you imagine what those guys would be like as superheroes? Eastwood recently stated that he was asked to play Superman back in the 1970s; maybe his character would be along those lines, although I'd picture him as more of a Batman type. Nicholson and Beatty together again? Who else would be in line for something like this? Burt Reynolds? Richard Dreyfuss? Hell, why not even Robert Redford? I say go for it.

It's uncertain if Vaughn would direct THE GOLDEN AGE - he may produce it. But it's definitely a project he wants to make at some point. I say direct it, Mr. Vaughn. It'll make a nice trilogy. All three of his films would basically be the Riddle Of The Sphinx of superhero movies.

I'm almost certainly in the minority in not liking KA, but I liked Layer Cake and the trailer for X-Men, and that premise is pure win :D

New THOR Trailer hits online!!!

I'm not watching that considering the length of it, so...

...

Shane Black to direct IRON MAN 3

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/48537

Personally, I think the guy's ever so slightly overrated, but at least the time-frame's a better prospect for this one (2013).
