Gah! The drainage pipe from the washing machine was put down the drain hole in the middle of the bathroom - I don't have the right adapter yet - and it twisted and has spewed water all over the bathroom!  And it looks like Tina took the mop with her!

I completely didn't understand until I read your post, which saved me several hours of needless confusion. Thank you! I rather like the idea of an Oxford / Cambridge rowing competition. In fact, I'm not sure I didn't see one on Monty Python without twigging the joke. btw; it's not a homo phone* - row does not sound like row. I'm not sure there is a word for the stupidity that is "doesn't sound the same but spelled the same anyway just to confuse people". *Googles* In this case they're both accurate, but heteronym is more specific. This bloke has a different set of definitions though, and introduces the words polyseme and Heterophone :? They've been one of my pet hates of English for a very long time, so it's nice to know what to call the darned things.
