It takes guts to get out of the ruts The only space we need to conquer is the space between our ears. Worrying is like a rocking chair - it will give you something to do but it wont get you anywhere. It's the weather in your mind that determines the climate of the day.

We don't have good days we make good days. If the going gets too easy you may be going down hill.

I heard a good one this morning: you can either make your days happy or you can make them unhappy, they will both take the same amount of work

But it's incorrect.
It takes very little effort at all to have a crap day but lots of effort to make it a good one.

I don't think of it as referring to a single bad day, it's talking about days generally. You can either work at making your life good and your days happy, or you can work at making them miserable (like my mum who spends her entire time finding things to moan about and be outraged about) either way you're "working" at your life, why not make it positive?

Everyone has bad days, and it can take effort to pull your frame of mind out of the doldrums, but for me, it's generally easier to be happy and positive about things with a little work, rather than have the slog of dragging myself out of the self-perpetuating pit of despair.
