I heard a good one this morning: you can either make your days happy or you can make them unhappy, they will both take the same amount of work

I don't think of it as referring to a single bad day, it's talking about days generally. You can either work at making your life good and your days happy, or you can work at making them miserable (like my mum who spends her entire time finding things to moan about and be outraged about) either way you're "working" at your life, why not make it positive? Everyone has bad days, and it can take effort to pull your frame of mind out of the doldrums, but for me, it's generally easier to be happy and positive about things with a little work, rather than have the slog of dragging myself out of the self-perpetuating pit of despair.
