If you're following a sat-nav on your bike (which are already available), you're not watching a film...

If you're watching a film and a sat-nav, then you're really not watching where you're going. Hence the untimely demise.

But that's not the point I was alluding to. All this stuff can be done by a phone already. The significance is that you can do it without taking your hands off the job, or even looking away.

Yeah but the video is usually Flash, so really that's an Android advert.

Boston Dynamics' BigDog Quadruped Robot

The Five Finger Fillet Song. Don't try this at home.

Big Dog has been around for years but this is something that I have not seen before. It must take a lot of computing power to do that without it falling over.

That reminds me of the scene in Alien.

The russian effort is far more impressive because it was done with a much lower budget. The use of a sliding balancing counter weight is very clever.

There's an article on the DM site about Pathe News, talking about some historic footage in their archives. So you don't have to go there I'm just linking to a couple of examples on YouTube.

Le Mans disaster 1955. This crash cost 83 spectators their lives and the footage is chilling even now.

HMS Barham Explodes and Sinks, 1941

Franz Reichelt jumps off the Eiffel Tower, 1912. Early parachute test goes horribly wrong. This is surprisingly tense as Reichelt hesitates before leaping.

The quoted video title:

Most Badass Thing I Have Seen a Quadruped Robot Do!

While technically we can understand how big a deal it is - in this sci-fi drenched age, I find it amusing that we're getting wowed by a robot throwing rocks!
